Ok folks, I know this has been covered several times over the years but nothing recently and we have a few new members on the forum, so I thought it would be an interesting poll to see where our interests are as blade length is concerned.

Myself I have been drifting to smaller blades lately, the smallest being my Giantmouse Ace Farley with about a 2 3/4" blade, but I have a custom coming in, a slip joint with a 2 1/2" blade that I think will be quite handy, more on that once it reaches me :)

The newest arrival was my Kizer Gemini with black micarta scales, a newer release and I think the blade is thinner this time round making it a great slicer! it's length is a hair over 3" but still works fine, so I guess I'm saying there is no one size that will fit every one, but for my use a shorter blade works quite well. Where a longer blade can get in it's own way, but there are times a longer blade certainly is handy but I save such chores for fixed blade choice.

and my Real Steel Stella is right in the mix, between the Ace and the Gemini...

I have found after several knives that I prefer smaller blades, they just seem easier to pocket. My sweet zone seems to be 2.75".

EDIT: I thought that I should add that I am an office worker and my cutting usage is much different than someone else; for example a warehouse worker probably uses their knife a lot more than I do on a daily basis.

Yep, a range or multiple choice might have been a better way to go, but wanted to keep it cleaner so one vote per was it, for this one at least.

3 1/2 inch blades are about the largest I feel comfortable using in an office environment, so naturally, I chose that option. I also have many knives with smaller blades that also fill that particular role. On weekends however, there's not really a limit and I carry whatever I feel like that day.

Varied I chose no limit.. I like 2.9 inches sometimes and sometimes 4 inches.
Over a week now I've been siding with this.
I even carry this while working out.

On my keychain in a Mini Recon 1 , under 2"

My other two are usually "over the limit" at 5.5" up to 7.5" ...and that's not counting occasional fixed blades , machetes , or swords .

I do have two 4" that I carry fairly often = Colossus and 4Max Scout .

AD10 and other CS 3.5" make good town knives , so as to not upset anyone .

For modern folders, I still prefer 3.5-3.75"...but can I really say that when the modern folder I've carried almost exclusively for over a year is under 3"?

For traditionals...probably 2.5-2.75".

For fixed blades, I find the 3-4" range to be the most useful; but I carry up to about 5.5" just because I like the particular knives.

The knife I tend to grab most often when heading out the door (Spyderco Pacific Salt 2) has a 3.75 inch blade. My EDC tasks could be done with something slightly smaller, but I'm a giant and anything sized-down would get lost in my hand.
