Blade preference for camping?

I was wondering if you guys use a 9-10" bladed knife or a machete and a 14/11. I am looking into both options and was wondering which would be my best bet.

How about Machax and BK16?

I think most of the Beckers get toted out into the bush. It kinda depends on what you expect to be doing with the knives as far as which will be best for your purposes. BK2 is a hoss, but a good amount of poundage. I can say for sure that I probably won't be toting mine with me on backpacking trips; that weight is still reserved for my khukuri of choice, accompanied by a smaller knife, like my 11. All bets are off once tweeners and machax arrive though.

I am going to bet alot of people will say a BK5 and either the 14/11. I am going to use my 9 and 11 combo. Both I think will work well.

Price is a huge consideration as I only have $82 in the knife fund. I have A BK2 and it is a beast, but I was looking for something a bit bigger.

How do you plan on using it? When I hear camp knife, I think of the BK5, but it's hard to say if I don't know what it's use will be.

Wood processing, campsite clearing, and to a lesser extent, looking like a bada$$:D. I like the BK5 but I was looking for more of a big chopper. The BK9 would be great but it would be nice to have a different blade for small stuff. is the BK9 nimble enough to do small stuff well enough to justify using only it?

What's this nonsense about "using only it." You know you're gonna get more Beckers as soon as you get money for em :)

Having used Haze's 9, I'd say for the tasks you've listed, it will do nicely. It's a surprisingly nimble blade.

It's a lot easier to get Becker money than pretty much any other kind of knife money though. Drink 1 fewer beer a week, and you could get a necker in no time. Or see 1 fewer movie once in a while. Bladite has a whole list of ways to save money for Beckers somewhere...

Yeah, didn't work for me either. Also, I need to stay out of the HI subforum too, if I want to keep my Becker money. The DOTD today was killer. Thank goodness for the sharks who snagged the really tempting stuff. The 9 is my favorite Becker that I've gotten to handle so far, if that helps. I think you'll be very happy with one.

I don't have a machete, so I really can't be of help with that.

I CAN say that I really like my 9 for generic camping use. Having said that, I do camp out of my Jeep so weight isn't really an issue to me. But the 9 can do all of the little stuff I've asked it to do, and excels at the big things.

I think my go to "trio" of blades will be the 9, the 17 and the 11 when I go into the woods. I also do use a folding saw, because lets face it, while chopping is fun and can be very useful a saw is just better at cutting things.

If you only have $82, I might say check out a Condor Golok for the large chopper (or the 12in Ontario), and then either go with the BK11/14 or one of the tweeners. Or get the 14 now with a saw, and then maybe get a BK9 in the future?

No idea man, but good luck with whatever you do :).
