I notice the tip on my newest Vic SAK the compact model is quite rounded. I compared it to my eary 2000’s Champion Plus.

I have probably sharpened the older one on the right but i never do it aggressively usually a few passes on a medium grit stone is enough so i could have altered it.
I have a brand new never used in box Champion Plus i can dig out and see if it’s more rounded and i’m just full of 💩?

I agree. I know i can fix it eventually. Not that the compact is in my intended use, a weapon but i guess if i need to use the compact to poke a hole in something i’ll just use the awl on the back.

I checked some old and some new Vics i recently bought and they are all sharp and pointy. Guess i will be correcting this QC getaway. Stay tuned.

Its something newish theyre doing
Ive received enough swiss army knives recently to confirm this. Its some misguided "safety feature" which is quite unsafe especially if you want to insert the knife in the middle of something then start the cut from there, you'll have to work harder and the chances of it closing on you is higher now

Sloppy work from factory personnel?

Or some higher agenda for European safety bull hockey?

It can be fixed with a little time on a stone, but you shouldn't have to.
Unfortunately I don't think so. Too many have arrived to me with a "round pointy" tip

Someone else made a thread about this and originally I didn't believe them :(

Man oh man, the EU is getting fruity.

Might just be an in-house adjustment by the owner who's still afraid people are murdering entire villages with a sak recruit.
After all Karl easier used the knife violence in the UK for inspiration for their bladeless models

Then he must be in touch with the head of Opinel!

A friend just got a new Opinel number 6 with the slip joint mechanism, and it has a definitely rounded blade tip. Fifteen minutes with a large mill smooth file fixed it. Maybe its a European trend to render everything less harmful? 🤨

I owned one of those. It has a good design and a completely unnecessary rounded tip. Im not expert in knife laws in the EU but I don't believe rounded tip is a requirement. I mean no ones going around stabbing themselves or committing crimes with a slipjoint... its Just "something extra" theyre doing. I use the tip a lot and a rounded or semi rounded tip is dangerous especially since it can close on you with too much downward force at an angle

Exactly!

I guess it gets passed the certain mindset that rounding the tip creates a whole new hazzard if you go to use the blade tip and it's rounded profile slips and doesn't cut into what you want. In order to make something a bit less "shabby" they don't mind if you get cut when your knife won't do what you want, like piece a box or container, or gut and clean a fish.

I just have to shake my head at this nonsense .
I first discovered the semi blunt tips in orders previous but I didnt think much of it until I ordered a bit too many SAKs and saw the trend.

Heck, we've. been writting them for years for a Cadet X and they haven't listened yet. I don't think they are paying much attention to their fan base, unless you're some ditzy YouTuber like John Gadget.

Count ourselves lucky that they don't give us blunt edges so we don't cut ourselves.
