Blade profile on Victorinox?

I was trying to get to work one day and some idiot was in the passing lane driving under the speed limit. Stay with me i’m going somewhere with this.
When i got to work i mentioned it and someone said “ yea i do that because i think everyone should drive the speed limit” smh.
So i don’t doubt people are doing it as a way to further their own agenda. Meanwhile i’ll re-profile. Any that need it and eventually quit buying them.

A little better. Now it hurts if i tap the point with my finger like all the normal tips do.

So I decided to make a mistake and asked what google thought and this is what they spewed out their word hole

Victorinox has begun exploring and implementing blunter, rounded, or even removed tips on some of their knife models primarily to comply with increasing global regulations regarding knife safety and to combat rising concerns over violence.
Key Reasons for the Change:
Regulatory Compliance: Due to rising violence in several parts of the world, many countries—particularly in the UK and certain Asian nations—are tightening laws on carrying knives in public, often limiting them to strictly professional or outdoor use.
Safety & Perception: The company is developing "bladeless" or blunt-tipped tools to create, safe, versatile pocket tools that can still be carried, addressing the stigma of traditional sharp, pointy blades.

I see nothing that says blunted tips are a requirement
So its clear we need to be rescued from ourselves
(Edited to add) doing more reading and while this is coming from reddit someone said the blunted tips and rounded tips are designed because they are using new modern blade sharpening machinery that will overheat the tip where the metal is finer, leading to more rejected blades by QC, so the blunted tips dont get burned nearly as often leading to less rejected knives, saving time and money.
surre, i guess so, but not entirely sure its true as I cant fact check it but interesting all the same
If you recall, case knives are doing the same thing, at least all mine came with the same kind of blunty tip deal

So ordered from Victorinox 1 set each of colored tooth picks and tweezers ($13) but to get the free shipping i added a Vic Camper ($38) Sounds about right?
So when they arrived i checked the tip of the blade and it’s normal. Sharp and pointy? Guess i’ll see if the tip snaps when i slice a tomato? 🤪😂
Also checked my climber i got from Walmart 3 months ago and it’s normal too. Though sometimes Walmart sells old stock so that to me is inconclusive. IJS

Does anyone know if the second smaller blade, for example on a Climber or Tinker with this “feature”, also have blunted tips?

My 2025 purchases of a Sportsman and a compact have sharpened tips from the factory, for what it’s worth.

My Synergy model came end of last year with a pointy tip so this would have to be new in the last couple of months if it is indeed a "new normal".

I guess i should have checked my other knives. The Complete as you know doesn’t have that 2nd blade so it wasn’t top of mind.

I have 12 Swiss army knives sealed in their little gray boxes on the table with me here. There's a simple way to get to the bottom of this by checking the tips now

It could be one person taking it on their own recognizance. If so seems odd the knives would make it through QC? image.jpg
Though I doubt they do this with every knife?

That certainly could help solved( inspector Cluzzo) ) this mystery.
S ShaiHulud it’s been two days how is the investigation proceeding?
Believe it or not I had a message typed out but I had to fix some things
Because it puzzles me. Out of the 15 models that came, about 4 were sharpened at the tip. Most were not, so now unfortunately we cant say (or can we?) That it's intentional, unless of course the sharpened ones were new old stock, and i have no way of knowing if they were, i suspect they were simply because of the ratio of unsharpened tips to those that were sharpened

It wouldn’t surprise me if they just changed tooling or manufacturing process creating this “feature”, and then it takes six months of production to use up all of the old stock blades in assemblies (and even more time for distribution to use up the old stock).

Did any of your twelve have a second smaller blade, and are those tips rounded also? Like a climber for example?

Indeed. I purchased a Victorinox Delmont or Dumont 14 from not Victorinox and it came in a blister pack with a date of 2016 on the back in the small print. Old stock? I’m guessing yes.

Dang. The paranoia that pops up in these kind of threads… Newer process for 91mm is just too much time in the tumble polish or they’re using a new batch of tumble media. Or too little time for the automated sharpening. Or something along those lines. If it was an “agenda” thing, we’d see it across all products and frame sizes. Go check a new 58mm. Or are the scissors blunt on everything too. Haha. That said, I’ve been making the tips *actually* pointy for a long time…by dropping the spine to be 90° to the edge at the tip, not grinding the tip up to the spine. It wastes less material that way.

I’m open to all opinions and freedom of thought and meaningful or fanciful dialogue.
Mix in a little paranoia and conspiracy theory just for a little spice can make it interesting.
In your sharping exploit would love to see a picture of your handy work. End result as we have examples of before pictures.

Thank you for enlightening us all. Your “or” logic was very insightful.

Pictures making the point clear (pun intended) would probably require me to use the DSLR and macro stuff I’m too lazy to go get. This is a conceptual sketch of where I file/sharpen to make the tip 3-sided, not with a rounded spine like they have been or blunt tip like is frequently seen now. Back in the ‘60s and earlier, the spines were *swaged* from above the nail nick to the tip and would roughly make a 5 sided tip.

Sketched and pictured a tip showing the flat reflective area. File and sharpen to the red line. Round it a bit if the flat spot bothers you.
