Scuffs and scratches caused by normal use are the badges of honor of a well loved (and used) blade. Scratches and other marks resulting from neglect or abuse are just sad.

If it’s a user, it better have scratches. If it’s a collection piece, it better not have scratches.
Wouldn’t you prefer a scratch from use than a scratch from dropping it ?

This /\. If concerned with scratches on more expensive knives have a beater to do the hard work! While i use all my knives I definitely use some harder than others. Dedicated users... no worries.
