Blade Show 2016 - Who Is Going?

We don't mind shipping them for y'all. Keep in mind that I give the staff monday and tuesday off to make up for working the weekend. That shipping would happen Wednesday of that week.

Thanks, Andy! I might hand off a bag of knives to you at dinner on Saturday night.

Again, thanks to everyone that shared their knowledge about Blade in this thread. I hope to see you there.

I wish I was able to be at blade this year! My wife and I are expecting twin boys at the begining of June.

Hopefully I will get the boys into knifemaking with me and we can have a table at blade in a few years!

Hope the fiddleback crew has a great time in the pit and dinner!

congrats to you & your wife

My wife and I will be coming to the Blade Show again this year.

Last year was my first time there. Here is what I learned from that experience:

1) If you come with a big agenda or specific wish list with lots of knives on it, expect to feel stress that takes away from the fun. That was me last year because I was sharking for specific pieces for myself and others. This year I am coming with no specific agenda so that I can enjoy a more relaxed weekend. I will buy a few knives this time for sure, but they will be the ones that surprise an/or impress me in hand when I get there.

2) Bring a small daypack to keep your purchase(s) and Swag in while keeping your hands free to check things out. Last year I used a Trader Joe’s canvas tote bag for this. It worked OK but was certainly not ideal. Having some empty zippered cases or other packing material in your pack to protect your knife purchases is a good idea too.

3) Dress for comfort, especially with shoes. The building was warm inside last year, so dress accordingly.

4) Bring cash if you plan on buying knives from the smaller custom knife makers and many other small vendors. Most don’t take credit cards. Paypal is not your Pal at the Blade Show. Personal checks? Forget about it!

4) Carry some bottled water or other drinks and snack food like energy bars or whatever you like. You will forget to eat and stay hydrated as the hours quickly go by while you are dealing with sensory overload for a knife nut.

5) Go to the Fiddleback group dinner at Fogo De Chao on Saturday night if you can. Hang out in the “Pit” at the Renaissance Waverly hotel in the late evening to meet and socialize with the Fiddleback crew and other forum members.

My only regret from last year was realizing that I missed out on meeting many forum members who were there, but we never got introduced. That is easy to explain when neither of us knows what the other person looks like. In order to improve the odds of meeting more forum friends this year, I have included a mug shot of me below. I will be wearing this black Fiddleback T-Shirt on Friday. Please feel free to introduce yourself and say hi if you see me.

Thanks and I hope to see you there!

Phil

Hey Phil, make sure you stop by and say hi.
Made some very good points for newbies to the Blade.....If you really want stress work the other side of the table. All that stuff going on around you and you don't get much time to go lookin'!

I don't give advice because I want the advantage over all those who have not been before, but I am going. :)

Soo, my Boy Scouts' trip fell through so, this guy is going!!! Good thing I never cancelled that hotel reservation...

I think the best tips of them all has yet to be mentioned

The guy with the shaved head a beard loves bud light and in most cases is the one that tallys your total

I'm just saying

Hahaha

Hey Phillip,

If Bud Light is your favorite, maybe you should be working at the Cold Steel table at Blade. You really need to upgrade your beer quality to match the high standards of where you work. I'm just saying...

I'll buy you whatever beer you want when I see you my friend.

Haha. Bud Light - an acquired taste! Just kidding Phillip. I understand. Like other things in life, it's a cult following.
Although I find it ironic that Budweiser announced today that it will rename the beer "America" this summer in an attempt to show its Patriotic allegiance to the US. Ironic because it is a Belgian/ Brazilian owned company.
Maybe they should label Bud Light - "Merica" - Now, I'd drink to that.

I also will look forward to meeting some of you and saying hi to those we met last year and at Kansas City. We have the tables marked an map ready. This advice is great. Thanks.

Doh!! I really have to concur with Phil on this one :-)

Know a lot of you spider guys are "Muckers", so thought I'd share a pic of one that I'll have at the Blade Show. Really looking forward to getting to re-visit with a lot of you. Hope you have safe travels to and from the show.

That looks awesome Carl. I still think about that Green River style knife with the curly hickory handle you had last year. I waited a little too long on that one and Bill beat me to it. Lesson learned. I look forward to talking to you again and checking out all of your wares on the table.

Phil

I can't wait to see that table Carl. Make any daggers that you know I collect?
