Blade Show reports

Hi Joe,
I was actually referring to negative comments about the Mojo bowie that Roger and I collaborated on, as this was the first public appearance for it!:)

Matt - there was precious little. Though I think the fact that I was standing there with a big dopey grin, hopping from foot to foot, obviously pleased as punch with myself didn't all lend itself to brutally honest critique. :o

Just about EVERYONE commented on how suprisingly light, fast and well-balanced it was for such a big blade, the clean grind and the good ergonomics of the handle.

It was a real kick showing it off to some of the best makers on the planet - that's for sure.

Dan will be sending it to you for stenciling shortly.

Roger

Roger,

I have seen a lot of first efforts, and even though I know you had Dan right there to help, it is still an impressive knife.

Now for my two cents on the show. Not my best at all. Mainly because I had worked too hard for too long on previous projects so I could get ready for the show, I just burned out and hit the wall. I had a very high attrition rate on pieces I was making to take. I did end up with three and sold them all plus have two high end folders spoken for once they are finished. The show wasn't as busy as in previous years, but the good makers always seem to do well and this year was no different. It seems the that the makers who suffered were the ones who weren't very fresh in the current scene. Great makers, just not offering anything different or new enough. Lots of regulars didn't show, and I didn't pick up any new customers as of yet, which is a big reason I go to shows.

I spent Sunday hustling work on more of a small run production arrangement which is always good bread and butter work.

Other than that, It was great to see many friends and I think overall it was better than I expected it to be given all the economic banter lately.

Blade Show 2008 was great. I think the attendance was up this year but alot of people were not buying. 4.00 per gallon for gas in Atlanta might be to blame.
