Blade steel is becoming less important to me

Also, would like to point out that I have made heavier duty blades from steels that are not known for toughness, with a much thicker edge geometry, and they do stand up to significant abuse, but it defeats the purpose of using those steels. (Like a big ol' clip point in .225" thick S110V...overly expensive, thicker behind the edge, but can definitely chop well, but no better than same blade in 4V or 3V.)

long story longer, I choose to use high wear resistant steels for the knives I make in the designs I make, because that is what they excel at.

Thank you. Very interesting. Usually when I have heard someone refer to "old timers" they meant someone old that they know personally, hence my inquiry.
Ya I word things funny I guess ~ I think just about everyone I have ever known has left a little of their vocabulary, accent and wording with me ~ put all that a few beers and a keyboard in the mix and it gets Weird ~ 🤭

Charlie? From Pattys? Is that you?

I just bout a Demko AD20.5 yesterday in AUS10 steel because they had some at my local shop and I really liked the knife. I guess that says something.

Just looked up that Demko AD20.5 it's a cool knife ~ 👍 I have a folder I made out of a kit long ago with the same steel it's been on salt water fishing trips and hung up in my pocket for yrs ~ sharpened it with 400 grit maybe 2 times it keeps a good edge ~ Fit's like a glove in my hand and has a solid lock up~ That's what it is all about IMHO

Just today, I'm out testing a new Chopper design....
I have a Nitro V treated to 62HRC, which is probably too hard?
Wow....was it Impressive!
I beat the living daylights out of it.
Hard wood.
Dirty wood, covered with mud, logs laying under leaf litter, branches, Everything.

No chips, no dings, looked great afterwards!
I even cut my thumb on it after whacking it for Hours.

Way Better than 3V!!!
