I vote premium stainless just because I don't have a traditional that is, but 1095 will be great too.
Nickel silver pinched bolsters gets my vote.

Thanks for organizing this Wintermute!

premium stainless then D2
the bigger the better.
single groove.
cheers.

I'd like to point out that the GEC #48 is a different pattern than we voted for!

The knife we voted for is a curved Jack Handle pattern, and the GEC #48 and other slim trappers are Serpentine Jacks. A little study makes the difference clear.
The #48 above was the 2010 forum knife at a different Knife Forum.
I'd like to stick with the program. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks for that Charlie. I was thinking it but didn't want to say it. Glad someone with a little more experience around here like yourself did.

Okay, i would go crazy if we could get this in a stainless Steel. That would take this over the top, whatever design we choose, Im sure a stainless steel would attract more people to this knife, beyond the hardcore traditional fans. I will get one either way, but I would pay allot more for stainless.

Maybe this is too much work, but would it be possible to have a choice of stainless or Carbon Steel?

I went with D2 for a change. I've got enough 1095 to sink a battleship.

Voted Carbon. Not picky on the rest, but I have a thing against fancy bolsters. My .02

I voted for premium stainless just for something different this time around. I'd be happy with whatever is ultimately picked, though. Any treatment except pinched is fine for the bolsters. I would prefer NS or stainless liners also.

When this poll is done, I would like to see another. The issue is that (at the time of this posting) 1095 is leading by a large margin, with premium stainless and D2 following. Yet if D2 and premium stainless were grouped together, the combined votes would outnumber 1095. Myself, I voted for premium stainless, but I would prefer either D2 or a premium stainless over 1095 (or any other non-stainless steel). But D2 is considered an "almost" or semi-stainless steel. If the option was between stainless and 1095, I would choose stainless. If the option was D2 vs 1095, I would choose D2. I would guess that, given the option, others would feel as I do. I fear that 1095 might win simply because the votes for a stainless or semi-stainless (D2) are split.

Therefor, I would suggest that after this poll is closed, another be made with only 2 options: 1095 vs D2 or premium stainless (whichever receives the 2nd most votes).

I voted premium stainless. ATS-34 would be the cat's pajamas!
2nd D2
Third 1095
Last 420HC
Rat tail bolster, ss or nickel silver (ns)
Liners, ss or ns
3 1/2" - 3 7/8"

Premium 1st
D2 2nd
Bareheaded, don't have a preference on bolster style
The bigger the frame the better, especially with the premium steel

I'll 3rd what Planterz suggests. I'd prefer D2 over 1095 if premium stainless is out. D2 and Ivory Micarta!

We are on a very tight budget and time limit so please keep that in your considerations. Thanks
