Blade Steel.

Maybe one of the reasons CRK does not offer to take blades to a higher RC or offer blades in different steels...is because it might encourage blade swapping and the resale of franken-sebs. It's going to be easy on the warranty department since every part is fitted for each particular sebenza.

Plus it will add another line of work and quality control that CRK probably does not have the man power, resources, or space to handle.

This thread reminded me of the following threads:

and this one:

Well just like the title says I had a Wharnecliffe M4 blade with opening hole for my small micarta 21.

Special thanks to Chase Axin of Chax Knives. Incredible to deal with and he did a great job.

^^ Reminded me of that too, but I was too lazy to dig it up and link it. Thanks for doing it! I'd like it a lot more if the thumb hole matched the handle cut out, and if the blade was not as tall.

You posted just to tell me that ???

I'll participate when I want, and will every time this topic comes up. These threads are rarely civil, and get us nowhere.
I don't have to like the topic to participate.

I feel there is nothing else that can be said about this beat to death topic, but If you really feel the need to keep on and on about how you dislike the CRK HT just keep it up then.

Yes I did post to say that to anyone who calls for closure of these types of threads.

You don't like the topic or thread.... what is the point in commenting?

We are being civil, we are having a discussion in the correct place so closing the thread is pointless.

If you don't want to talk about it, then you are perfectly capable of avoiding. Yes?

I have no problem with you Ken, I just am sick of people always calling for thread closure when CRK HT comes up.

Some people think the HT is spot on, some don't.... but this is why we have a forum to discuss such things.

I won't derail this thread further in an effort to avoid closure lol.

Talking about each other rather than the topic at hand could well get the thread closed though.....

Haze speaks the truth. Respectful discussion will always carry the day (in the end).

Bringing this one back up because I promised to report back after some more usage on my S35V Zaan. I am thrilled to have good news, my edge has performed substantially better over the past few weeks, leaving me to conclude that the issue I spoke of earlier in the thread was likely mine. As this is my first time working with S35V, I am now fairly certain that I must not have worked the burr down/off on my previous sharpening. I find that the burr is a bit more difficult to discern than on the steels I am more used to. Thanks to those that pointed out this potential earlier in the thread, I am an even happier CRKer.

:)

This is not uncommon and thank you for clearing that up.

That's great to hear and know.

Excellent to hear. That makes MUCH more sense than the other possibilities.

+1!

My experience over a year of sharpening my first 21 was that it came crazy sharp, but I couldn't seem to get it sharp again for the longest time. ( maybe three of four dissapointing sharpening sessions), and then it started getting crazy sharp again. I think the CRK steel is harder than most give it credit for. I think what happened with my knife was it took a long time for the blade to be re-profiled to the nuances of my sharpening angle and style. What normally would bring my spydercos up to full sharpness, was not enough on my Sebenza when new, until I had removed enough metal to match the slight difference in angle between what I do, and what was done at the factory. It needed time.

I find that I can get CRK s35 very very sharp, but I can only get CRK s30 so so sharp. In my use, they both last a long time and work great for my uses. For both a use diamond hones and a leather strop with 5 micron paste

officer's match, how did you get rid of the burr? just curious :)

Simple Lansky setup with a lot more time on the fine stone than what I've used in the past alternating sides each stroke towards the end, followed up by stropping on leather. I truly love my Umnumzaan more every day. Have a 25 inbound now, hope my Starbenza doesn't get too lonely.
