Blade Steel.

I think we need to recall that in the grand scheme of things CRK is still a small, family run, shop with what appears to be a single assembly line. Comparing them to Spyderco, which has large operations in several countries, and essentially outsources a large portion of their production to preferred, quality overseas factories, is kinda 'apples and oranges.' If CRK can't keep up with demand pumping out S35VN all week long, how much effort would it take them to reset all the machinery to do a good job on S90V? Remember your Sebenza was made by robots for the most part, and we all expect them to be perfect, and we expect not have to wait three years to buy one. Lets cut CRK a little slack for making great knives that so many obsess about, at a high level of quality, in enough numbers that most places have them in stock. Also I hope the folks at CRK get the weekend off to live their lives and pursue their own hobbies and passions without stressing out that the new 1 million dollar CNC machine just destroyed itself running mnandis in YXR-7 at 65HRC.:)

You can't blame me for wanting my favorite folder with a CPM-M4 blade heat treated like a custom maker would.

That's the whole thing brother, custom knife. A custom maker would do that, they would work with you on the design, steel etc. CRK isn't going to do that. It's nice to want. I would like to see a slipjoint from CRK but their not set up for that. I'd like to see bushcraft themed, more traditional knives for that. That's not what they do. Good luck in finding what you are after. I would like to see what you get.

I knew this would wind up like this yet again. This topic has been beaten to death many times, and often with the same people.

Nothing more can be said in this thread that needs to be said IMO.
I feel there is nothing we can do here other than tell people its not going to change, and to buy a knife that does suit their needs. Go with another brand, a custom, or get your CRK hardened if you wish. There are no other options left that we can give you.
You may wish to call CRK, and they can tell you the same thing that we have.

Could a Mod please consider locking this one down.

Have any participants in this thread requesting changes to CRK knives asked CRK about the requested change? I have been told, when requesting certain custom graphics on a plain Sebenza, that they do not make unique knives, ie one offs.

No "blame" or offense intended. Just thinking out loud and discussing. ;)

Completely understand and actually appreciate that. That was my purpose. Seems the overwhelming feel is there is no chance.

Good enough. I got my answer, but I will keep dreaming

No, not at all!!! Thats why I was so hopeful!

I think I need to revisit having one custom made. Maybe one of the slipjoint masters would be really nice and help me out.

Don't know if someone has mentioned it, but you wouldn't be the first person to have a (excellent looking btw) custom blade made for a Sebenza frame.

Search for it, I believe in the Maintenance forum. ;)

Also, from the perspective of a person that doesn't care one way or another, you guys are surprising me with how angry you are getting at one another. Frankly, I expect better in this sub-forum in particular.

CRK should (imo) probably just close this thread. Just sayin. :(

Yeah, I will try for the custom route again. Looks like my best bet to get what I want.

The anger surprised me too.

I am not sure I sensed anger--more annoyance than anything, but people are people.

I mentioned this in another thread--maybe even this one--I can't remember! Would anyone be interested in participating in a pass-around with a higher RC/heat-treated Seb? Here is how I imagine it happening: Each person interested in the pass around can throw in some cash for the opportunity to participate--if we have 10 or so people interested then we can buy a used Seb off the exchange, send it in for a re-heat to a recommended source, and each have a few days to use it, test it, carry it, sharpen it, etc. At the end of the pass-around we can all post our experiences on a specified thread. Then, and here is the best part, we will hold a random drawing and one of the participants will have a re-heat treated Seb to add to his collection!

email me or PM me if you are interested!

I have spoken with officersmatch through PM, I should have kept my mouth shut. I have made many friends through these forums, and would like to keep doing so. We all have different opinions, which are great. I think it would have served better to hold my tongue instead of adding that remark.

I'll mention again that you might be surprised by the performance of the BG-42 blades. They're a little hard to find but not unaffordable - and they're very easy to resell if it doesn't float your boat. Give it a shot.

Everyone is being civil, no reason to close.

If you don't like the topic discussed, don't participate.... simple as that!

We are in the CRK forum talking about CRK knives.

You posted just to tell me that ???

I'll participate when I want, and will every time this topic comes up. These threads are rarely civil, and get us nowhere.
I don't have to like the topic to participate.

I feel there is nothing else that can be said about this beat to death topic, but If you really feel the need to keep on and on about how you dislike the CRK HT just keep it up then.

It's often difficult to convey or interpret "tone" in an post, unlike actually talking to someone. I for one wasn't angry, and silenthunter and I are good AFAIC.

Ken, if that was only for you it could have been PM'd. Pretty sure it was a public comment intended for all even though you were quoted. I certainly am a "newcomer" compared to you, so for me and possibly others this thread has been beneficial. I don't come here just for pretty pictures (but do love 'em), I like to learn.

Each post should be a contribution rather than insisting we close a topic because it has been discussed before often. I have enjoyed reading this and feel every experience adds to a pool of data that may be helpful to others. An experience should not be discounted just because we do not share it. Perhaps this topic comes up often because quite a few people have experienced the same thing? Why close this topic? Is this forum not for discussion? It is a valid topic and I feel closing it would defeat the purpose of this forum. Ideas for improving a product we enjoy is something people can talk about and contemplate, regardless of if it will happen or not. This thread will go on as long as there is interest for it.

As for me I haven't used a ton of sebenzas but I have had 2 sebbies flatten or roll at the tip just from tapping a hard plastic. I found it very strange and haven't seen that on any other knife. However I have had a para 2 in m390 that chipped bad because it hit metal, so a softer steel probably wouldn't have had this happen.

Nice pic Kevin !

If you ever decide to get rid of that one to get a custom with a higher RC please send me an email.

Thanks Ken! I will if I ever do, but I never would let go of any of my regulars unless I had to. :)

There's nothing wrong with a discussion. Especially when/if it stays on topic and members play nice. I'm not insisting that this is not occurring btw.

I'd like to see quality discussion happen here. If you look at the Hinderer forum, they have guidelines to prevent threads/posts from damaging the company. I'm really glad that this forum is so open. As I mentioned, I don't really care about the topic at hand. What I DO care about is that the CRK forum stays like it is. Remember, this is a manufacturers forum, moderated by the manufacturer, not an open forum.

The Kershaw forum is an example of what I think everyone would like to avoid.

All of that said, it appears that this thread has a tendency to get back on track. That's a good sign! :)
