BladeForums 2024 Traditional Knife

Sure. Here it is with a trapper.

Kidding aside, here it is between an Old Timer 858 and a Queen #49, both large stockman pattern.

If you give me a hint, I can probably scare up something you're familiar with for comparison.
Hahaha yeah I was thinking more in line with other GEC, probably should have mentioned that. Has to be close to a 88. Every day I look at this past years forum knife I like it more and more.

Here it is next to an 88:

More detail...
caveat emptor I'm a noob.

I used forum search and read a bunch of other posts.

I am just starting learning.I think it would have been better to have taped the blades. But would the tape have stayed?

What I did....

Rinse knife with dish soap+hot tap water 110f?

About 1 cup vinegar -may patina!

About same water

1tsp dish soap

Submerged knife
Bring up to temp med heat (slow rise)

At about 120f added dye, half bottle rit liquid all purpose fabric

At 140 started timer

At 160 took pan off heat, trying to maintain around here.~7min mark

Stir frequently/occasionally..

At 13 min checked color. Wow dark. Probably lighten when rinsed?

14 min mark rinsed in hot alternate glass jar moving minutes

Left in outer area to cool

At 150 removed to air for 2 mins

Replaced water in second container with hot tap 110?

Second bath drop in clear 110 and agitate

I really thought the deep patina and scaled might have ruined it. But I've always kind of liked the antique look so it came out good for me. I think I like it. Just did it today so it's still new.

Polished with Dremel and fine compound. And Scotch Brite pads as wheel.
