Bladeforums - Best Bowie 2007

Don Hanson, MS - the ivory bowie in the middle - owned by Rob - hopefully someone has a better pic of this - it derserves one:

Here is a better image of Don's bowie he made for the Chicago Show this year:

Plus, Coop posted Don's Ozark Walnut Bowie image (one of my favorites :D), but that bowie was made for Flavius in 2006 and doesn't meet the required qualifications. I really like what Coop did with that image, tho. That is a super bowie.

Here is Don's 2007 Guild Show winner:

Have to include it!

And a recent one from Anders Hogstrom:

This thread has a definate WOW-factor going for it!! And, that J. Knight bowie is spectacular!

Sorry, guys, my mistake, this knife was not made in 2007.... but, I do not
know how to get rid this post......

This is the only Bowie made for me. Gil Hibben designed a new pattern,
named it "Darom Bowie" and created this massive piece for my book on
modern fixed-blade knives......

David Darom (ddd)

That's okay David - it's the first time that one has been shown here, so that's in.

Thanks for the much-improved Chicago pic Joe - and for the other impressive entries.

I think this piece by Rodrigo Sfreddo is worthy of inclusion. How many bowies have you seen with an integral double guard? Not many, I bet - and most were probably made by Rodrigo:

And I'll add another Andrews to the mix (oops - fixed now):

Heres another Sfreddo from earlier this year, when I get round to it I'll post some specs in another thread!

My only Bowie purchase of the year.

PJ Tomes, 52100 & stag, not brand new, but new to me.
There is another...but it is sitting on a certain knifemaker's bench awaiting the rest of the 'package'
:P
;)
:D

I am suffering sheer torture trying to cull this down to only five nominees.

FWIW in alphabetical order:

1. Harvey Dean, Feather El Diablo, stunning control of the feather pattern

2. Don Hanson lll, Sinistre, more flow than the Amazon river

3. Burt Foster, Laminate, a marriage of great innovation and of materials

4. Rodrigo Sfreddo, Integral

5. Nick Wheeler, Peck Award, it is absolutely alive in your hand

Frankly I could just as easily have said the "S" Andrews, Cashen, Fisk, Hancock, a different Hanson, Knight, or the Siska (dang that one kicks @ss) and on and on.....

Can't argue with any of those.... but... let's get all entries in before we start culling. ;) I'll leave it open for submissions for a couple more days - some good folks are on holidays right now.

I keep wondering what other little gem our buddy Stephen is going to post up in his "oh-by-the-way" style. :)

Roger,

I might just pass out, if I am confronted with more choices. ;)

Seriously, 2007 maybe THE best crop of stunning steel EVER.

Since I'm just passed my first year here, I was wondering if have we picked a best bowie in past years? Best Hunter?

If we go along that path, and I really don't mind we do, why stop at bowie and hunter. Let's throw in best dagger, folder, ....... of the year as well.:D;)

After we have selected the best in every category we might even let them fight for the title of best BF KNIFE OF THE YEAR.

Ok here's one to throw into the mix
Hanson/Holson Collaboration 13 1/2 inches of Steel and some of the most finely finished Ivory I ever have seen

Quick - somebody go revive Peter. :p

Kevin - I don't believe we've previously done "Best Ofs" in different categories for a given year. But I'm all for it. :)

I tell you right now - if we do "best damascus" your Dean wins!
