GREAT job guys.

Voting will close at some arbitrary time tomorrow morning (Eastern time) - so get any last minute votes in while you can. This will not get any easier with a few rounds of new year's cheer under your belts - vote sober!

Have a great night everyone.

Roger

Happy New Year Marcel! I'll be there in about 8 hrs.

This made my head hurt!

Me, too!! Have not had much time, but would go over several more times if I did. Nice to have such choice choices! :D

1) Post 1, #1 - John White stag - Like this one more at each glance.

2) Post 1, #4 - Don Hanson Warrior - Have had dreams about this one. Has everything happening with it, and it's all happening right.

3) Post 10, # 1 - ERA II sub-hilt - Enjoyed watching this being made courtesy of Keith & Russ, would love to handle it sometime.

4) Post 31, #1 - Don Hanson stag - Had to chose a 'small' DH III fighter out of three I love (post 2, #1, post #10, 3)...and had to go with the closest to home. :D

5) Post 60, #1 - Harvey Dean El Diablo - One that speaks to me.

6) Post 75, #1 - Jerry Fisk Bandolero - Kevin called me after the Arkansas Show and ask if I got to handle it and my impressions. They haven't changed one iota. Outstanding.

7) Post 89, #1 - Don Hanson sub-hilt - There are three other bowies I tried to work in, but have to go with this large sub-hilt of Don's that feels so right as the last choice for me.

Appreciate all the work Roger and Marcel!

Who is this DH3 popping up? Clearly he/she/it is cheating. ;)

I hate to be negative, but whoever is actually gonna round this all together has way to much time on there hands. Or just deserves the winning bowie at the end.

:)

I have plenty of free time lately, and wouldn't even dare try this. Maybe if I take enough ambien and stay up..

This was an almost impossible task to come up with only 7!

1. Post 31, #2 John White, This one just displays an understated elegance with the great hamon, earthy toned ivory and the simple but elegant Damascus guard and butt cap.
2. Post 1, #2 Bruce Bump, I love the Damascus and the small engraved guard is beautiful. I can just about see some well dressed 19th century gambler defending his honor with this one.
3. Post 10, #1 Russ Andrews, the san mai Damascus is incredible with this blade shape. Incredible work on the guard and subhilt
4. Post 31, #1, Don Hanson, Don just nailed this one. It all comes together so perfectly, great hamon and gorgeous stag
5. Post 67, #14 Craig Camerer. Awesome grind on the blade. The Damascus guard/buttcap really sets off the beautiful ivory on this one.
6. Post 51, #1, Erickson/Warenski. This one is a work of art. Beautiful knife and the engraving makes it museum quality.
7. Post 1, #4, Don Hanson, Outstanding blade and the proportions are perfect, great guard and ivory

Thanks for putting this together guys. I just wish I could handle some of these. Happy New Year to all of you!

Great thread! Was much fun, really tough to choose.

Post 89 #1 Hanson Subhilt (I'm in love!)

Post 1 #4 Hanson Bowie (I'm in love again, what a set of ivory!)

Post 1 #7 Andrews Subhilt (great proportions & detail in those fittings)

Post 20 #6 Royer Fighter (fine materials, great detail work)

Post 75 #1 Fisk Bandolero (exquisite)

Happy New Year's y'all

Is voting still open? If so:

Post 5, #5 Bradshaw S-guard - Turns out I also like S-guards. Who knew?
Post 20, #1 Hanson - Just the right amount of "crazy" in the hamon, IMHO
Post 34, #5 Lisch Pirate's Choice - Just too cool
Post 65, Goo - while I like the Goo e-nep, I like this outside-the-box bowie even better
Post 90 - White - Awesomely clean-looking and I love the handle shape
Post 108, Sfreddo spearpoint - This knife is just insane on all levels!

This is impossible.

VOTING IS NOW CLOSED.

First of all - my sincere thanks to all the participants. Everyone who took the time to nominate a knife and to engage in the difficult task of voting on finalists - you all rock! Special thanks to Marcel who was always on top of the tabulation and joint witness to what was a very close race until the end.

Second of all - a round of virtual applause for all the knives entered here - winners all, in my books. The mission has already been accomplished - we have collectively produced an impressive representative snapshot of the state of the bowie in 2008. And what a great year it has been!

Your 5 finalists, in alphabetical order:

Russ Andrews Stag Subhilt (Post 1, #7)

Harvey Dean El Diablo (Post 60, #1)

Jerry Fisk Bandolero (Post 75, #1)

Don Hanson Crazy Hamon (Post 1, #4)

Rodrigo Sfreddo Spearpoint (Post 108, #1)

Look for a poll later today for selection of the Best Bowie from among the finlists. I'll come back and link it here once it is up.

HAPPY 2009 EVERYONE!

Roger

It was fun to do and just for FYI here are some stats:

There were 67 knives voted on, I didn't count all the entries;); 30 knives received one vote, 10 knives two votes, 10 knives three votes and the other 17 knives received four votes or more.
Don Hanson III had the most knives voted on, eight to be exact, and still regardless of that many knives received enough votes on one knife to get to the finals.
Some makers, whos names shall not be mentioned here :), would have made it to the finals if they had received all their votes on one knife instead of on several of their knives.
