3 new knives I've received in the last 6 months that I'd like to enter to the contest...

While I received the Rodrigo Sfreedo Fighter/Bowie in 2009, technically it was made in 2008 and I think may have been posted in last years contest but not sure. Refer to post #96

I just finished this set of knives for new maker Kevin Evans of Paris, MO. (It's his 8th and 9th knife!) Those are silicon bronze fittings, and his own damascus.

If you can accept the 'pilot fish' hunter tagging along, the Bowie is a VERY credible entry.

Wow, some great additional entries. This will be the toughest narrowing-down choice I think I have faced. That's cool!

Coop - Kevin Evans can't be all that new - that is some really nice work.

These are larger images posted on behalf of Jon Klein - I'll ask him to edit out his earlier post # 10 with the thumbnail entries. The Ron Newton Best Damascus 2009 Oklahoma bowie has since been posted by another participant, so I'll just show the other three:

1. Ron Newton Art Deco Branson Best of Show

2. Ron Newton/Jimmy Chin Dog Bone Collaboration

3. CKCA Bowie (Jerry Fisk/Don Hanson/John White/Russ Andrews)

I'll leave this open for nominations for the rest of the year. :)

At precisely when-I-get-up on New Year's day, we'll close submissions and start the process of voting for the 5 finalists.

So get those entries in!

Roger

PS - I'm still looking for someone to help with counting the votes. Maybe a fancy job title would help entice? You will proudly wear the title of Chief Electoral Officer. I'll be your assistant. :)

1 #7 Kyle Royer Ring guard
2 #2 Bruce Bump Bowie (AMAZINGLY AMAZING)
2# 6 Josh Smith takedown
2# 7 Terry Vandeventer Clamshell
23#3 Jerry Fisk Coral/Clamshell
28#1 Don Hanson Stoned walrus
31# 5 Ron Newton
35#2 Kyle Royer Subhilt
52#2 Tim Hancock AKI

Kevin Jones and Rob Connally own two of these beauties I listed. You guys are cheaters!!!

^^^ I just tried getting it down to my list of 10 favs. I ended up with 12 knives. This is gonna be tough.

Roger

I'll help you Roger:)

Thanks Lorien - you are now Chief Electoral Officer.

I have bad news about the salary... :p

Roger

Bunch of good bowies here, Roger. It really is goin to be tough.

Thanks for the thread, this one is always good fun!

I've copied each of the 120 pictures so far presented into a Best Bowies folder. Keep in mind that at least a few of the pictures present multiple knives.

Whittling it down to 5 is going to be real hard, and I doubt that the photos will stop coming...

Giving a shout out to some of the less fancy entries - that Burt Foster Blue Collar matched set and that Mike Ruth sheephorn handled fighter really float my boat.

Roger

Dan Graves showed some really nice pieces this year. I cant find the pics of them, but if anyone can post them that would be great.

Didn't Mike Ruth have another one that I'm not seeing here. Maybe the one that was best bowie from Blade. I think this is the one.

Great seeing Kevin Evans recent work, Coop. A credible entry, I guess! And, I really like that hunter companion!

Here are two more that came out of Don's shop in 2009 that I have images of:

Lots of awesome work to choose from this year! It will be tough.

Roger, I was going through the thread narrowing choices down, and wanted to note the Hanson ivory fighter I posted in post #34 (knife #2), has been duplicated in your post #78 (knife #3). That is the only duplication I am sure of. If there are others, maybe they will be pointed out. It is always nice to keep confusion to a minimum when sorting out these final votes. :D

Thanks, Joe

there are some amazing knives here, a few which are really stretching to be in the "Bowie" catagory.

Some look like big hunters with double guards, some look like recurve choppers etc... I guess this shows how "varied" the definition of a Bowie is.

Cant wait to see all the entries, so far I see 2 or 3 I will have to narrow it down to.

This is impossible, so I'll just throw my intuitive votes out here, in no particular order:

Dan Farr walnut/carbon fiber post #130
Larry Fuegen Gentleman's Dress Bowie post#5
Tom Ferry Bowie post#23
Tad Lynch #22
Jason Knight #1 in post #78
Any one of the three in Don Hanson's pic in #78

Having been largely absent from these forums for the past year or so, this thread is an especially nice treat for me.

Thanks to all my homies here for putting it together and posting these wonderful pictures, and thanks also to all the incredibly talented makers who created these stunning pieces.
