Bladeforums BEST BOWIE - 2009 Edition

These are my top three picks in no particular order(too hard to decide:P):

Kyle Royer's ring guard bowie. Incredible craftsmanship and execution of design!

Don Hanson III. #8 in Roger's original post. That thing is just vicious!

Bill Bagwell's Alamo bowie. One of, if not the best looking Bagwell Ive seen so far. It's gonna be a long wait untill my name comes up on his list... Im really envious Joe! :p

My interest in custom knives is primarily focused on bowies/fighters, so this thread gives me some insane eyecandy! Keep it going!

Kougera - I really like your choices, but we are not voting yet. Voting will only begin when submissions are closed so that we make out choices from among ALL the knives posted.

Also, please keep in mind the following from my original post:

6) Finally - the only "please don't". Comments on and discussion of the knives posted is most welcome and encouraged, but please don't quote an earlier post and reproduce the image already shown. This can lead to confusion when it comes to tallying votes, as the same knife shown 2 or 3 times has its votes scattered.

Thanks for participating - just hold on the voting for a day or two.

Got it Roger:) I wasnt trying to cast any votes, just showing my appreciation of the aforementioned pieces.

I guess I rushed through the first post a little too quickly trying to get to the eyecandy:P I will remove the photos and leave my comments.

Thanks for the head up!

Well, if Roger is going to submit his #11 dagger ( http://www.fototime.com/A4A185EF402E599/orig.jpg ) in direct violation of his own rule

To close one loophole from last year - no daggers.

Then I'm going to post my cholla handled Baby Bowie by Tai Goo, which is too small to qualify. :D :D :D

Roger, knife #11 in post 78 participated in last years election. I think it's real pretty and wouldn't mind if it would "run for office" again, but it is in fact made in 2008.

Thanks Kougera.

Thanks Marcel - those were posted as a group on behalf of a fellow forumite - I should have looked more closely. :o That piece has now been edited out.

Acquired this one from Chris Moss in May.

OAL: 18.75"
Blade length: 12.25" width: 1.5" average
Blade thickness: .25" tapering towards the tip.
Blade and spacer are 74 layer 1084/15n20 i forged on a Iron Kiss Hammer, and the blade has been laddered toward the edge.
Guard is raindrop pattern damascus
Handle is Desert Ironwood secured by a stainless steel pin through the tang.
Blade was finished to 600 grit, etched and then protected with metal wax.

Thanks Steve for entering the stag fighter. I would like to throw this one into the ring.

What looks like inlay on this piece is actually damascus that is forge welded onto the W2 blade. the handle frame and guard are also forge welded.
Thanks for looking.

So many stunning pieces... But I'm personally thankful that Bruce Bump posted his "Dr.'s Bowie" with P. Long's sheath.... If he hadn't, I was! :D

BURT FOSTER BLUE COLLAR PERSIANish CAMP (Bowie) SET

The great philosopher Marilyn Munroe once said, "A man being rich is like a woman being pretty. It's not the only thing, but it sure helps."

Same with makers. A maker doesn't have to be a great guy, extremely talented, truly professional, and a pleasure to deal with but it sure helps!

Thanks Burt,
Dave

Great thread! What a pleasure to see such fine knives all together like this. Selecting the people's choice winner should be a gas. Here are a few more to consider:

#s 1,2,6 & 7 I acquired new this year and the others are new knives I photographed for the makers. Before my friends here point out the obvious, I openly declare my fondness and preference for beautifully finished plain carbon steel Bowie type knives of special character. Even so, I love them all.

That lonnnnnng whistling sound you are hearing is me. WOW!
