BladeForums BEST BOWIE - 2011 Edition - Voting CLOSED, Finalists Selected

Thanks guys - as voting has slowed, I'm inclined to leave it open until tomorrow morning and declare the finalists then. Anyone still scratching their heads, it's time to start typing.

Roger

I like my Bowies clean and not too fancy, so guess I should vote for the ones I own. Many, many more I would like to have!!

I agree with everyone so far.....this is an incredibly diverse and spectacular group of knives, and narrowing it to 7 means I am leaving out knives that I absolutely LOVE !:D:D
I've had to do what Roger did, and flip a few coins....

Choosing was painful. It took me an evening just to narrow it down to a mere 20 candidates. :|

Post# / Knife# / Maker

2 / 1 / Hanson
6 / 1 / Lynch
28 / 2 / Lamey
33 / 1 / Wieland
82 / 2 / Knapp
104 / 1 / Goo
112 / 10 / CAS

For someone who is not overly fond of stag handles, the fact that 3 of my 7 choices have stag handles is mildly amusing.

Greetings all. I’m going to call an end to voting at this time and declare the finalists. A new thread will be posted later today for voting on the final selection of BladeForums Best Bowie for 2012.

Some of the closest voting in the history of the event resulted in a 3-way tie for the final spot, with a net result of 7 knives advancing to the finals instead of 5.

Without further ado, your 2012 finalists in alphabetical order are:

Russ Andrews – Stag Subhilt Bowie

Adam DesRosiers – Damascus / Ivory Integral Bowie

Don Hanson III – Ladder Damascus Bowie

Jason Knight Founder's Bowie (Paranee)

Nick Wheeler Fighter (Paranee)

John White Legacy 3 Dogbone D-Guard Bowie

Gerhard Wieland Stag / Bronze Bowie

Thanks to all for your participation – many clearly struggled with the choices and I think that is reflective of the strength of the field. The closeness of the voting is another strong sign that many knives had very broad appeal.

Again – congrats to all the makers whose excellent work has spoiled us for choice.

Special congrats to Joe Paranee – who will be grinning like a maniac until he realizes that he now can vote for only one of his babies.

Well done everybody. I've thoroughly enjoyed holding this title for the last 2 years but it looks like I will need to pass the torch to another maker. There are so many high quality bowies this year it was bound to happen.
Congratulations Russ, Adam, Don, Jason, Nick, John and Gerhard.

Roger -- can you edit the latest post of your to include the post and knife number like it was in the initial voting or will that be in the next thread with the photos of only the knives being voted on there? I forget what was done in the past -- old age you know!!

Congratulations to the finalists! My hat's offf to each and every one of you. I was just proud to be considered. Great job and interesting thread.

Hi Guys,

I saw with pleasure that someone of you liked the work of Sam, I just correct the name of the knife...;)

TSAVO by Samuel Lurquin...

Like the place in Africa where Colonel Patterson had his go with the lions :)

Btw I love that knife

Norbert is it yours ?

Bonjour Joe,

That's it.. Approximately 140 workers killed by 2 lions in 1898-1899.....The man-eaters....

It is not my knife, I just had time to photograph it to Gembloux. "Belgium Blade Show"

I possess a little more than about ten of Sam's knives, only one "big" at this time..;)

But not whatever: the first one BlackOut Bowie...
