I went through a 'quick' search last night in order to scavenge for more bowies from a more diverse selection of makers.

I think that it is very important to this annual thread, that those makers willing to take the risk and expose their work on this forum be nominated, regardless of whether or not they have any chance of being selected as 'The Best'.

Additionally, 'The Best' is not necessarily what this annual event is about. It's about all of us contributing to a thread full of great knives, chosing our favorites and generally having some fun. These threads are legacies in my mind, and if it were up to me, every 'Best Bowie' thread would be stickied.

For future BB events, keep in mind that there may be those of us using the search term 'bowie' to traul for nominations. We can't just count on makers nominating themselves, as some may feel awkward about that. To these guys, take a note and use the word 'bowie' in the posting of your bowie knives and maybe one of your admirers will nominate you next year. There are so many good knives that get missed every year.

Before I cast my votes, I'd like to make sure that you all know that Best Bowies is Roger Pinnock's baby; he is the mastermind, and I simply help provide additional insurance that the tally is complete and accurate. I appreciate your kind words, but we should all be tipping our hat to Roger for making this cool thing occur.

Post 15, knife #2 - Lisch's ball ended s guard stag handled bowie

Post 71, knife #4 - Loerchner's carved, 'Frisco style gent's bowie

Post 109, knife #1 - Stefano's futuristic, fullered Iron Mistress interpretation

Post 110, knife #10 - Horrigan's fluted, framed ivory handled, laminated vest bowie

Hey Lorien - thanks - but "mastermind" definitely is putting it too high. I can take credit for the original idea, but what makes it a cool event is the participation of everyone year in and year out in the nominations and two rounds of voting. I remember when I posted up the first thread, wondering if more than half a dozen guys would participate. :o And it can't be overstated that if all these makers weren't out there producing all these terrific knives, we'd all have a lot less to be drooling over, and scratching our heads over.

Still waiting for this crazy day to settle down so I can spend some time making my selections - gets harder every year - which is a good thing.

Roger

Okay, here are my choices. Pulled out what hair I had left to get this down to 7.

1. Post 2, Knife #3 – John White Legacy Dogbone D-Guard (I think this, and each knife in the Legacy Series, will endure as a hallmark example amongst the impressive body of work of a maker who will go down as one of the very best.

2. Post 3, Knife #1 – Kyle Royer Blue Bowie. I don’t know that “perfect” exists in the product of human hands, but I can’t find a thing I’d change about this one.

3. Post 7, Knife #1 – Bruce Bump – the Judge. Over the top – in a good way. Had the pleasure of handling this one and it informs my appreciation of the knife.

4. Post 3, Knife #2 – Lin Rhea / Samuel Lurquin collaboration. Big, bad, beautiful. As impressive to hold as to behold.

5. Post 4, Knife #1 – Russ Andrews Stag Subhilt. These subhilts of Russ’ rank amongst my favourite in the custom knife spectrum. And this may well be my fave of that illustrious group.

6. Post 48, Knife # 1 – Don Hanson blue / green mammoth fighter. Torn between this and the one I nominated. Tossed a coin.

7. Post 2, Knife #4 – Nick Wheeler / Paranee design fighter. Impressive blend of speed and power in all its variations.

A round of applause for all the makers - you guys are clearly not just striving to keep up the great work, but to make the great work even better.

Roger

Post 2 #5 Culver

I had a big list and kept fighting over which seven and then just decided to post my favorite. This summer I invited a couple of friends the the A.G. Russell Knife Event after one of them asked me if knives could be art. This is the knife I took them to see.
