guys, I'm trying to count your votes but have limited time to go try and figure out which knives you're talking about.
This is a simple formula;

Post #- found at top right hand corner of the post where your chosen knife is

Knife #- found at top left hand corner of the actual photo of the knife

Maker's name- you guys don't seem to have a problem with that

Description- not totally necessary for the vote counting, but a few words don't hurt for double checking

ps. Ranking is irrelevant

1) Don Hanson III -- Post 2, #4--The blade profile in that damascus flows like liquid and the handle doesn’t hurt it a bit.

2) Stuart Branson -- Post 16, #6--The lines to my eye are so well balanced that they approach perfection.

3) Kyle Royer -- Post 25, #1-- Death on call, sinister incarnate, love it.

4) DesRosiers, Royer, Gann collaboration -- Post 68, #1-- To me this is the modern bowie style done to the nines, love the twist damascus, the classic blade profile, the tastefully checkered handle, and I can live with the guard.

5) Mike Ruth -- Post 69, #4-- The damascus to me evokes the gills of a large sea-going predator, the lines of the knife seeming to move even while at rest. If a shark could be a knife, this would be what it would look like in my mind.

6) Samuel Lurquin -- Post 92, #2 (W2 with hamon)-- this particular version of Sam’s Tsavo to me epitomizes Lurquin style.

7) Nick Wheeler -- Post 135, #2 of 3 knives pictured in post. (Knife has the longer clip of the two with guards.) -- The damascus is mesmerizing, the lines classic, the whole completely satisfying.

Many would have made my list except for minor aspects I’m particular about—can’t get into dog bone handles, D-guards, oval slab guards or subhilts—just me. So many great pieces and several that on another day might have been given preference in my mind.

As always, thanks so much to Roger for hosting the thread, and to Lorien and all who help make it work.

Happy New Year guys,
Will

It was extremely diffucult....
A lot of the knives are very beautiful.

This thread gets better each year....and harder to narrow down to the finalists !!!

At least in my particular case, my picks are somewhat influenced by the fact that I've actually held some of these knives, which just gives that extra sense of "connection" IMHO

Anyway, in order of posting

1. Post 2, #4 : DHIII ivory/damascus - Don has "patented" the "long lean and mean" bowie

2. Post 25, #4 : Mike Q/Dave L Collab coffin handle - what's not to like? 2 great makers for the price of one :D What a collaboration is all about

3. Post 34. #2 : Mike Ruth Jr subhilt - much lighter than you would think and killer execution in every way

4. Post 67, #1 : Nick Wheeler Koa integral - not a "classic" Bowie, but a real masterpiece of flow. Again, VERY light and fast

5. Post 70, #1 : Mike Ruth Jr Damascus/stag - This just screams "Bowie" to me - every part fits beautifully into the overall look

6. Post 71, #2 : Dave Lisch Ring guard - Again, not "traditional" but just the nicest, most elegant ring guard I've ever seen.

7. Post 115, #1 : Burt Foster Half light - this knife just has "it" - simple but subtle use of material/shape/design

I could easily pick seven others...and frankly, there's not a knife in the whole thread I don't like. Great job makers !

Thanks Roger and Lorien :thumbup::thumbup:

Bill

Can anyone vote?

Most definitely
! Thanks for participating.

Thanks for grooving on the format gents - makes life a lot easier for the election officials.

It's not required, but please feel freee to say something about why you voted for each knife - like Will York did, for example - it's interesting to read what appeals to each voter. And there are no wrong answers. ;)

Post # 2, knife #3, Jerry Fisk Trail of Tears - classic Fisk proportions with magnificent damascus and engraving
Post #20, knife #4, Rodrigo Sfreddo black and gray integral - simply incredible, Sfreddo never disappoints
Post #20, knife #6, Kyle Royer shell guard and ivory - unparalleled artistic design and execution
Post #25, knife #1, Kyle Royer Shadow of the West - simple but striking, it just works
Post #51, only knife by claudio-CAS extended guard with ivory - the guard and fittings make this one special
Post #71, knife #2, Dave Lisch Ring Fighter - beautiful feather damascus and an elegant ring guard
Post #82, knife #2, J.R. Cook End Times with ivory sub-hilt - love the "four horsemen", terrific damascus

Well they are all very very nice blades. I think for each one I chose there was something distinctive that I liked about the whole package that just looked good to me. If I was a collector and I could have any one of these blades I think it would have been the sun fighter by Lisch which is why that one made my list. If I was going to have any single one of these to carry around all the time for which ever reason I picked Ben's #3 blade. That guy looks like you could have pulled it off a guy from a hundred years ago or today.

The others were basically my top pics for something inbetween my two listed above.
