I hope my mistake is corrected in final tally.
Post# 81-#7 by Scott MacCaughtry. Not #6 as I put on my list. (Thank you madbug)

Post # 1 Bowie #2 – Lin Rhea Gibeon Bowie: The unique materials, the suburb execution along with a design that just screams ‘Bowie’ makes this beauty one of my choices for Bowie of the Year.

Post # 8 Bowie #1 – Mike Ruth Jr Moran Fighter Bowie: When design, execution and performance come together like this; it would be very difficult not to be a choice for the Best Bowie. The overall proportions, perfect long sleek Damascus blade/clip along with the beautiful amber stag make this my favorite of 2013.

Post #67 Bowie #1 – Jerry Fisk Southwest Bowie: Jerry makes a Southwest Bowie like no one else and this one is among his best ever. It has everything one would expect from a top Bowie from one of the finest Bowie makers in the world.

Post #67 Bowie #2 – JR Cook CKCA-Jerry Fisk Cutlery Challenge Bowie: Anyone who has seen this beauty will agree that it’s outstanding. The Best Bowie JR has ever made IMO, thus one of my candidates for Best Bowie of the Year.

Post #37 Bowie #2 – Larry Fuegen Cowboy Bowie: Larry Fuegen is without a doubt one of the finest most multi-talented knifemakers in existence and it’s certainly demonstrated in this piece.

Post 8, #1- Michael Ruth, Jr...love the lines, the stag, the Damascus.
Post 9, #2- Lin Rhea
Post 13, #3- Dave Lisch...these two knives are innovations in my opinion, love the guards.
Post 7, #1- Don Hanson, great use of the ivory!
Post 1, #1- Jerry Fisk

Many hard choices this year, I like the variety we are seeing.

2-2 CAS Laminated Recurve-This is a stellar looking knife for flow, and I really like the finish work....IMO, the line of demarcation between laminate and core is too wide, but it is still an amazing knife.

9-1 Fuegen Ancient Ivory Fighter-The carving on the ivory, the fittings, the flow of the blade....what's not to love?

13-3 Lisch Ring Guard-Dave has come very far in a short period of time, developing his own flow and look....the way the ring and guard are formed on this one is intriguing and the steel is lovely.

22-2 Lurquin Persian-Peck Award winner, flow, visually compelling, felt VERY lively in the hand.

37-2 Fuegen Cowboy-Larry never stops experiementing with shapes and textures. This one is a winner for me bacause of the handle shape, the splendid carved inlay and the overall flow. I can say from personal experience that Larry makes one of the best maker-supplied sheaths available.

48-1 Wheeler Fighter-I have long been a fan of Nick's work, and this one just resonates with me. I find I like his fighters and daggers most because the flow and attention to detail he has are at the top of the food chain in terms of workmanship and he also makes a fine sheath.

100-1 White Damascus Fighter-John has made some knives this year that I found particularly attractive, and this is one of them. Sweet flow, attention to details and superb materials all add up to a stunning knife.

Good luck to all, and may you have a most wonderful 2014.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Great stuff this year! Hard choices. Always fun.

Post 1, knife 3 - Russ Andrews stag/Damascus. I had this in my choices the minute Roger posted it at the get-go, and it hasn't moved. My kind of bowie. And, we know how clean Russ finishes them. Love it!

Post 2, knife 3 - Sam Lurquin Tsavo. Just a great design by Sam. Designed with purpose in mind. Sam could make just these and Huraks from here on out and stay busy!

Post 7, knife 1 - Don Hanson III jagged ivory. Has Don's name written all over it. This knife means business. Don's flow and feel extrude from this one. Don does big right!

Post 9, knife 1 - Larry Fuegen. One of my favorites from him. The steel and carved ivory are both over the top.

Post 22, knife 2 - Sam Lurquin Peck winner. I fell in love with this one the minute I saw it in Atlanta. Then, you pick it up...well, you know the rest. Can you say great artist and great maker in one sentence?

Post 67, knife 3 - Kyle Royer ivory/Damascus. We know Kyle's talents, and we see them all here. But the steel on this one sort of blows me away.

Post 81, knife 4 - Anders and Don's collaboration. Wow! Didn't get to see this one in person, but this is one of my favorite of theirs to date. No pre-build drawing here, Don ships Anders a blade, Anders decides how to finish it after he receives it, and we are blessed with one of these a year. Bad ass to the max.

Hear it goes, but before I vote I want to thank all of the folks that voted for my work and thank Roger and Lorien for all the work they do so we can have this thread and what a thread it is. There are things I like about all the knives and many of them are made by friends and that makes it harder to vote.

p9 #1 Fuegen this knife is as warm as they get it hits me just right. I am a big fan of Larrys work but the way all the carving works together on this knife, wow!
p9 #2 Rhea the forged iron guard coined liners warm stag, my kind of knife
P36#2 JR Cook this is my favorite knife by JR carved handle well cut ball guard, very cool
P48#3 J Doyle wedding knife I can see the love in this knife the file rope work inlays in the handle and just so damn clean
p13#3 Lisch split ring, what can I say I worked for two days on the guard alone and the way the knife feels in my hand made it worth every minute. I have been pushing myself for years to come up with something new and with this knife I feel I might have.

My first year doing this!

In no particular order:

9-2 Lin Rhea damascus and stag bowie: Great lines, gorgeous materials and the guardwork is simply spectacular.

12-3 John Horrigan: Love the aggressive blade shape, handle shape and choice of materials work very well and the guard is beautiful.

21-5 Claudio CAS bowie: Love the dark look on this one. Perfect blade shape, love how the forge finish transitions into the handle and the guard to handle transition is even more impressive.

37-2 Larry Feugen cowboy bowie: Couldn't think of a better name for this one. The whole package just works together. One of the best sheaths in the thread and that handle shape is incredible.

41-1 Gerhard: Possibly the best of the bunch for me, this one is curvy and downright sexy! Amazing blade work in regard to both shape and finishing, handle and guard colors are perfect and their fit is impossibly perfect.

57-2 David Lisch winding feather with subhilt: Lots of amazing work from David to choose from but this one takes it for me. Amazing lines, shapes and materials along with one of the most beautiful and unique sub-hilts I've ever seen. I love his ring guard works as well but this one just speaks to me.

62-1 Samuel Lurquin walrus ivory bowie: Mean and nasty! The guard is the centerpiece on this one and it's just wicked! Proportions are very unique, blade shape and grind are super clean, handle is gorgeous and note the shaping of the handle lining up with the lines of the guard. Fantastic piece to look at.

Man that was fun! Tons of incredible talent on display here and I can say without a doubt that this is one of the most amazing experiences I've had during my short time here on BF!

Tough choices this year. What I did was flip though the pics and grab the ones the stood out as 'Bowie' knives to me. There were others that I could have easily picked, but had some minor thing or so...

I wasn't going to pick one of mine, but the jagged ivory one has a Strong pull... :o
