Congratulations to everyone involved in this wonderful annual project, especially to the finalists and the worthy winner, the incomparable Bruce Bump. I especially enjoyed the many responses and replies which make for great reading. I made sure to also vote for this thread by rating it.
An article, print and digital versions, could reach a large audience if it went beyond the things that are typically meaningful to us custom 'bowie' knife nuts and forum-ites who are sort of 'in the know' so to speak. One of the most effective ways to broaden appeal is by quoting other people.
People are interested in people. I love the beautiful hand-made knives and uber-talented makers but the real gold mine in our forum record of Best Bowie events is to be found in your/our
comments about the knives. There are many gems to be found in this thread and those from previous years. Well-chosen quotes say more than "this is a beautiful knife by a great maker and it got the most votes." Good quotes communicate excitement, slightly bonkers enthusiasm, respect, desire, depth knowledge, passion - the kind of things that attract other people, help grow the 'secondary market' for special custom knives and support the higher price point for
hand-crafted objects in our increasingly mass-produced lowest-price-wins world. Did I hear someone say, "shut-up Buddy, you're bringing me down.' Sorry. Reset.
...they have similarities to some of my favorite automobiles.
Brilliant, my friend, brilliant!
