Bladeforums Bowie Stage 4: Critique and Refinement

Ive been playing with plunges lately, and now believe the curved plunge to look amazing in all forms, but I dont know if that was ever up for debate....heres what i think the plunge should look like...ive always though straight plunges or otherwise 100% curvy knives looked odd.
Heres one im working on:

Heres two by Dan Farr:

Al Pendray, Charlie Ochs and Robbin Hudson also use big sweeping plunge grinds to great effect.

Mike577,very nice knife,what is steel?
David, nice plunge,I agree curved plunges look nicer on curvy blades.
And you Stephen,
Great idea to mastermind this project.
Cant wait for Stage V. :)

Stephen,

Since this was your idea and you've done most of the work I think you should be able to have the knife made for yourself. All of us chipping in to have it made for a worthy cause is a great idea though. My only suggestion would be that we determine what charity we'll be supporting before the project is finalized. Regarding the design up to this point, if the blade must have a dropped edge, something along the lines of the Massey and Fisks in the first post of the Little Rock thread would look best, IMO. Looking forward to the next stage, thanks!

Leatherbird, its W2 it's a little over .400 thick at the ricasso. I put a severe distal taper in to get the weight down a bit so it weighs a just over a pound. I was playing with clay coating at the time and ended up with a decent hardening line.

I really like the way this is going.

I intend to support it to the end...whatever that ends up being. One knife, many knives, whatever.

In the beginning, I too thought this would end up as a Camel -- you know, 'as designed by a committee.'

Glad to see I was wrong. Can't wait for the next phase.

One of the most enjoyable (group of) threads I've seen in a long time.
Thanks Stephen and everybody else who's playing along.
I also plan to follow it throught to the end, the small details don't matter much to me. This is gonna be fun!
