BladeForums.COM History?

This site definitely has a great deal regarding things cutlery. I think implementing an online magazine will certainly help and be imformative for a lot of new folks like me.

I still go to KFC. Frankly, there are better discussions around blades as tactical tools as well as mindset discussions around defense in general. But Jim is right in that there probably is no need for multiple forums on tactical related issues even though I respect all the moderators there. The participants make the forums and they generally overlap.

I thought KFC stood for Ken "Friggin" Cook!"

Seriously, I "check out" KFC every few days, but it's like kissin' your sister. It feels good but "It don't mean nothin."

Bladeforum is where I spend 90 percent of my online time. (4 or 5 hours a day.)
Hundreds of thousands of websites and BFC gets ALL my time. I wouldn't have it any other way!

Thanks Guys.

I cut it, and I cut it, and it's STILL too short!

I have intentions of turning a section of the site into a magazine. We need to line up several things first as it will cost a pretty penny to do. Just like the magazines we will need to pay for articles from writers in one form or another. We will also look towards some of the members to fill in a writers and they will benifit as well.

What we do not want to do is be viewed as competition by the printed magazines. We do want to be viewed as a complement to them simply because we can do things here they obviously can't.

1) A few ideas I have are online videos of testing.
2) More in depth reviews.
3) More interaction with dealers(we have already started this)
4) More interaction with manufacturers (we have already started this)
5) A picture library of most knives.
6) 3D views of knives.
7) An online glossary of knife terms with pics.
And much more!
It will take a good bit more time to do so stay tuned

Hmmm.. Why not do it like a newsletter-type when it comes to articles, Mike? I mean, there are a lot of knowledgeable members here, and I believe they'd be more than happy to do something for the benefit of all, enjoy writing and submitting them for editing, and I doubt if they'll charge anything for it (unless we're looking at a professional writer at that, hehe). I did that once when I requested articles for a newsletter on my BBS, and the callers were more than happy to volunteer and it became a regular thing.

It would be a good way to start at least, and would give the members a chance to really share the brunt of the workload, right? I think there are a lot of things which you can delegate to the members, making this unique site a real community in every sense.

I do appreciate both you and Spark doing everything for our benefit, but to spend for it non-stop, I believe we owe it to you guys to try and help out, and give something in return. Just let us know how we can help in this. Webmasters, graphic artists, writers, testers, doctors, cooks, etc. hehehe..

Just my 2-cents.

Ken Cook,

I just may be insensitive, but I never detected any distaste in your posts over on www.knifeforums.com. But now that you've mentioned how unsatisfying it is for you, we can all try a little harder to make it more rewarding.

Steve,

I think it is only natural that a member would choose one site over another and post their feelings. I still visit KnifeForums myself as many discussions over there don't cross and I, like many of the members here, do want to stay informed.

This is just plain fun! I just wish I could make money doing it then I would have the perfect job!

Mike,

It might not be unusual to prefer one site or the other, as they both have their respective strengths. But what is it when somebody partakes freely in both, and then pisses on one?

Hmmm, hypaaaa, hypooo, hippopotomus?

Hypocratic?

Hypa, hypo, darn, what would you call that?

Steve,

I understand and I could point you to several posts over there that pretty much do the same. In the end, it really does not matter. What does matter is that we as moderators and administrators do what is right and watch the flow. Neither you or I can control the members, or the reason why they choose to do what they do or where they choose to do it.
