BladeForums.com Sebenza?

I too felt the need to get a Sbenza for a while - and this project looks like the thing that will make me do it...

I like the large version, a small and elegant "BladeForum.com" on the handle, and knife no' 33 - for my 33 birthday please....

I've been thinking about a Sebenza for a while also, and this would probably be the nudge to push me over. I like stjames's idea also, a simple "BFC-xx" on the handle.

I like RGRAY's ideas. I would like to see it happen, how about taking the money is stages? A $100 deposit to start, deposits non-refundable, but transferrable amongst members. It would make the bite easier on us (un)civil servants!

I like a fancy knife, but a unique decoration in the style of the other decorated sebenzas would probably be best. One of the things they do for tkcl knives is to have a few options ... you know, an extra 100 bucks for file work, so much for abalone inlays.. and this is even when the total batch of chew DAs (for example) is small. Just an idea. I would buy any LARGE Blade Forums Sebenza

Lots of ideas . . . The trick will be to find one special style of Sebenza that a few dozen BladeForumites will all buy. The more expensive it is, the less likely it is. Likewise with design changes. Anything that would amount to a "new model" would be rather ambitious.

A Sebenza with a false edge? HERESEY!! Jeez, everybody knows that you sometimes need to push down on the spine of a work knife.

LDC-9; not my choice. Of course, since I only keep my knives in my humidity controlled sock drawer, wrapped in Tuf-Cloth with a Tuf-Glide spray system and nitrogen atmosphere, I guess I could live with the LDC-9. But I think it would be a lot less functional if you used it.

Hi Walt, if not the LDC-9 style blade, how about a Persian style blade similar to the Synergy blade? I would really like to see a unique & beautiful blade for this knife

Like James said, the trick will be to find one special style of Sebenza that... Think back at the various BF knives. Some knives that have been sold here have been discontinued and/or cheap and some have been special models not available elsewhere - like the BF Native. BF Sebenza will not be a cheap or discontinued model, so it must fall in to the special category. What will make it special? The BF-text? The decoration that is not unique (remember that you could ask CRK to make any design as long as it's possible)?
IMHO, these would keep the price down, but would not make the knife special (unless you think it's special because it's a BF-knife). So it would almost be just like buying a regular Sebenza. I don't think that would be enough.
The tanto was special because it had a different blade. So my suggestion would be Warncliff-style blade (no point doing tanto). Or a special inlay that could not be gotten otherwise. Like CF inlay.
But my point is that to make it happen I think it must have some special thing. BF Native had CPM-440V + G10. That has not been available before and not since in production. The Sifu was preproduction with hand gound blade. The NICA Sebenza had Tanto blade and the LDC had more fighter style blade. Is BF-engraving enough to make it special (it will still be expensive)?
My suggestion is CF inlays and/or warncliff blade and a small subtle BF ancraving at the same spot as the 'Classic MM'. What ever it will be, make it small size - It seems more popular here. And remember that there are BF members outside USA too!!!

Hugo.

FWIW, I think it would have to be something unique. I really like Hugo's suggestion... a small Sebenza, CF inlay, Wharncliffe or other different blade style. The handle could be similar to the wood inlays, but with a flush CF inlay, and a Bladeforums logo etched on the handle; maybe on the locking bar where there's no inlay? I'd buy one.

Add me to the list of people who've thought about buying a 'benza for whom a BF version would probably push over the edge to really get one.

Part of what I like about the Sebenza is the blade design; I wouldn't want the "something special" to be a change in the blade design!

Mildly off topic, but maybe Spark and Mike should sponsor a BF logo contest one of these days.

Having a simple but recognizable BF graphic logo (sans BF letters) would go a long way towards making future custom offerings a bit more aesthetic and looking less like a knife expo handout. Maybe a stylized jet or rocket, which would emphasize BF's "leading edge" theme ... and in this case would also hint at CRK's association with aerospace tooling.

Several good points already made including that we can't stray too far from what CRK already makes, and yet to offer too close to a production CRK knife begs the question to the average (tightwad) BF member "why not just buy one at the local knife shop then?".

BF Native had going for it, steel and scale materials much better than what was available for the non-BF person, but used existing tooling to keep down the costs, so a new blade type would probably be prohibitive unless CRK already had plans to use that new type (and we in essence became the market guinea pigs).

BF Native took a cheap knife and added value to make it much better, but CRK doesn't have a cheap knife to work with.

It'd be hard for CRK to try and top what they already have on a top-o-the-line knife without the costs going beyond our means. Almost any measure to cut costs will lose CRK defining features (drop point BG-42, titanium slabs, high precision quality).

Any small change such as a BF logo embellishment will only appeal to the diehard BF member-CRK collector with lots of cash and a need to get every permutation, since the cost savings will be nil to the Sebenzaholic wannabes.

And if you go upward, with blue stone inlay (ala BF colors) and a talonite blade, well... there goes our kids' inheritance

Personally, I don't have a problem with a plain Seb with a small decorative logo, but the price would be the catcher. Considering that they're selling a bulk order to the "knife cognosenti", I would've hoped that a discount deal could be made, but at the current price, I'm afraid I'll have to pass.

Where do I send my money for that one?

If it's anything else, probably not...
