BladeForums.com Sebenza?

How about no Bladeforums etch on the knife itself, but maybe a special box or certificate indicating its a Bladeforums special addition? as long as the knife is something out of the ordinary and not available as a normal production piece. I just cant bring myself to buy a knife, any knife ,especialy a Sebenza with any etching that down the road could lower the value of it .Nothing agaist Bladeforums,i love it here but to spend that kind of money on Sebenza id hope it to retain its value down the road.I think the B.F etchings have kept a lot of people from buying past knives.Am i not alone on this?

That's why I suggested an etch on the locking bar. I really dislike blades that are cluttered with writing. Something simple would be fine; could be as simple as "BladeForums 01 of 25"

Standard Large Sebenza blade in CPM420V, mirror polished with a fancy thumb stud. Blade is etched 1 of 30. Blue anodized handle (same color as the BFC Native) with BFC 2000 milled out. If this is the final configuration then put me down for two, one serrated and one plain.

I'll take one. Would prefer a small w/ambidextrous thumb studs. Traditional blade. Blue anodized handles w/BFC logo of some sort. Number etched on the blade.

Keep it classy, don't change the blade design "just to make it different". I'd like the small size, but aside from that, and a requirement that it be recognizably identified with BF (e.g., logo on handle) I'd leave the design to Chris.
In my book, no one designs or executes a better knife, period.

I would be interested in a samll Sabenza with wood inlay with Logo at the bottom of inlay. Tanto blade a must!

Ok, here my ideas.

The knife should be affordable for many members. That excludes the more fancy things like inlays, Damascus or other new steels, extensive decorations, a new blade or handle shape, etc.

The knife should be elegant and not look some kind of promotional giveaway. That means don’t put the word “bladeforums.com” on it. The idea I like best so far is the “BFC 2000” and of course a serial number like x/xx.

What I would do to make it more upscale is a nice satin finished blade with two thumb studs (south pawn friendly). The handle should be satin as well (I did that on mine and it looks great). To prevent slipping and for weight reduction, it should have some holes drilled in it like on popular Crawford knives.

All this would make the knife unique and still affordable.

Talonite

I would also like to see the wharncliffe blade. (NO CF inlay though)

Also please do not have Blade Forums all over the blade, or on the blade at all for that matter.

Special thumbstud and blue handles.

Later,
John

How about a UMFAAN instead of a Sebenza?

Anyone have any thoughts on a satin finished, blue anodized small Sebenza with a polished blade. This would be distintive from the standard CRK offerings (has this been done before?) while at the same time keeping the price down. The locking bar could also be engraved as previously mentioned. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who may have seen an anodized Sebbie.

Talonite (r) is not possible. First, CR uses jigs which require the material to be ferromagnetic; Talonite (r) is not. Further, CR has stated that he doesn't think it is tough enough.

A Wharncliffe blade? What a ridiculous idea. The Sebenza has proved itself useful in part due to the belly (now called 'positive included angle') of the blade. The Wharncliffe, basically a stretched out sheepsfoot, has no belly at all. Of course, this is just IMHO. Walt

Okay… so a false edge is heresy, a LDC-9 is not your choice, a Wharncliffe is ridiculous and Talonite is impossible.

Are you going to tell us what you want, or just shoot down everyone else’s ideas?

The Umfaan is a good idea. As for decorations, the more elaborate it is, the less likely it will be to sell in great numbers. It's easy for people to give their wish lists now, but when the thing comes out with a $500(+?) price tag, how many takers will we see? Personally, I'm not willing to pay the large decorated price for this.

I like the Umfaan idea too... (though I'm sticking with my preference for a wharncliffe and CF inlay!)

It should bring the cost down a bit, and a Bladeforums pocket sheath could be made in lieu of writing Bladeforums on the knife...

I'll second this idea. The CRK "blue-light special" ... only if it's at a good price (relative to normal small Sebs), and don't anodize the whole handle (you've got to flaunt titanium).

Guys, we're not going to do an UMFAAN.

We're most likely going to do a LARGE Sebenza.

We're not going to do a Wharncliff blade, it will most likely be a standard blade configuration, with maybe a different material or finish.

Let's keep the ideas to the general shape and form of a Sebenza, and not get too high speed or off the wall. We want a design that will appeal to the greatest number of people, right?

Thank you for putting this whole thing back into perspective Spark. I think some people with lots of money and lots of ideas are going over board.

I think that a somewhat plain large (LEFTY?) with some BFC markings on the inside of the slabs would be nice. I think that it would also be nice of MORE people could afford it (i.e. not too fancy, because fancy==$$$)

I hope that for this project you guy collect deposits ahead of time, because it seems like you some times get stuck with a large inventory. If you ask for a $100 deposit ahead of time it will force people to be realistic about this project.

These are just my suggestions,
Mitch

p.s.
Do you think I could order a lefty version? CRK makes them special order at no extra charge, would this be kind of the same?

I don't know about lefty versions, but if it's no problem for CR, then we will offer them. I'm a lefty too, remember, so if it isn't a problem, that makes 2 at least (you and me

)

If it's going to be a problem, then we will do RH only, but again, that's a detail that we haven't worked out yet.

I am poor and therefore unable to buy even a cheap knock off of a Sebenza, so take my suggestion with a grain of salt. How 'bout a plain large Sebenza with a polished blade, blue anodized handles with an original engraving, a different thumb stud and BLADEFORUMS.COM on the CLIP. You could the put the serial number on the blade or on the integrated lock or something. Anyway, that sounds extremely tastfull and should be attainable to all but us psuedo hobo's.

I’m just curious as to whether there have been any more developments on this project…I’d still love to see it come together. I’m certain that a Sebenza of some variety is in my future; I’d love for it to be a BFC version, but if the project isn’t going to fly I can start looking at other options. Please keep us informed…
