Another thread, I said:

"What's wrong with S&W or MTech? My first 2 blades were a S&W SWAT II, and some unknown Mtech model. Both were solid performers, the SWAT II has beat out many more expensive blades. I've done things to that SWAT II that make me cringe, and it kept going. "

reply was:

You ask that on BladeForums? I'm not even going to get into it...

Also, btw, this came out of a statement that:

Well, it's better than someone buying a S&W or MTech... At least they have a name for the steel! Even if it isn't what they say it is.

So let's have it. Is BF only for "special" knives, or what? Is there a club list somewhere, or are we here to talk about blades that work well?

How many of you buy an expensive blade and don't care that you're getting what steel is advertised? Seriously? Come on.

Both of these blades have been SOLID.

I would answer but I am too busy eating my Caviar!

I don't get the point of this thread. It seems entirely based around calling another member out, to try to stir up a crowd to dogpile a guy for sharing his opinions.

For the record? Count me down as one who doesn't buy cheap knives. S&W and Mtech? I think they're cheap, cheaply made imported trash and I won't waste my money. I don't care that you, or someone else beat on them and they stood up. Sorry, I just don't care.

If you like cheap knives, that's awesome. Me too. There are plenty of inexpensive knives which are better than Mtech/S&W/No-Name Chinese crap knives.

Also? So, let me request clarification. You believe that someone buying a Spyderco/ESEE/Buck/KAI/Benchmade knife might not be getting the steel the company claims they're getting? Please show me some proof where that's happening, like, at all. Thanks. Don't show me some article or thread that's several years old, either. Please show the class some article or thread with proof that someone bought, say, a Benchmade whatever, but instead of the claimed steel, it was cheap 440 stainless with a poor heat treat (which is what most Mtech/S&W knives consist of).

Interesting question. My knife collection is of decent size now (but much less than many here, I'm sure) and two S&W knives are in that number. I actually like the knives. Both use the M.A.G.I.C. opening system which is very cool. One of the two gets quite a bit of use and other than needing to sharpen often (which is very easy to do) I have had zero issues with the knife.

I also own several Rough Rider traditional knives that I like as well. F&F is not as good as most of the American made trads, but great for the price.

I dunno. I just think that there is a place for all knives in these discussions.

JMO.

Don't you know that "b" in the word bladeforums stand for Benchmade

"a" stand for Kai

And "s" stand for Spyderco

You can only talking about products from these three company here whether you will receive an infraction.

Seeing how many people buy knives just to look at them or don't even use their knives it's not surprising. In a double blind test hardly anyone could pick out specific alloys from a lineup. Buy and use what you like.

I never said those companies were in question, it was in another thread that a blade cost 350 dollars from China, and the comment was that it didn't matter what steel they used or if they lied, that it was more important to not buy a S&W or Mtech.

So with that said, you seem opinionated that they both suck, but have you owned them? Honestly, because I have them and used the snot out of them. They held up and have a lot more to give. So how are there better options if my experience was amazing? OR are you just stuck in your mindset, and nothing will change your opinion? If that's the case then why read the forum at all?

Also, I'm not calling out another member as much as I want to, I'm continuing a discussion as to not hijack the other thread.

It reminds me of harley davidson riders;the hardcore ones wont wave at you if your on a honda or suzuki, seems like the same here, hey its just another guy carrying a knife, where all in the same hobby, whats the big deal ?sometimes it seems like on these forums if you dont have a hinderer, strider,or high end knife, your nobody.

This is akin to going to a watch forum and getting pissed because people don't like your Fossil or Nixon watch.

^ i would just tell them its either 3:15 or mickey is aroused...

Nothing wrong with cheap knives. Got a Utiliac II for $23 and for the price it's fantastic in everyway. Comfort, design, descent steel couldn't ask for more. Their the ones you'll use the most when actually gotta beat on something or carry when there's a better chance of losing it. I think alot of people on here just like to show off their $700 blade collectables that will never get used. Not that there's anything wrong either just bitter I can't afford one;) .

I don't care if people like the blade, I just want to have some intellectual honesty.

I know what thread you were posting in. I maintain that the intent of this post from you was to call another member out, and try to get other members to help you dogpile. I find that disingenuous. Yes, I AM opinionated (and so are you, although you seem not to want to recognize that). Sorry to burst your bubble, but yes, I have owned (and broken) more than a few flea-market table Mtechs. S&W? Never bothered. They're China-Mart specials. Cheap crap, and priced accordingly. Your experience is yours and hey, I'm glad your cheap knife performed for you, but stop acting like it means that cheap Chinese crap steel knives are somehow great. They aren't. They're cheap for a reason.

So, I don't understand the point of this thread. You're on BladeForums, where people spend hundreds and thousands of dollars on high-end knives from reputable companies who make great products. That doesn't make us snobs. It makes us people who don't waste money on poorly made, poor quality products.

Hate to break it to you, but we are ALL nobodies. Seriously, no one cares if you (or the OP) likes cheap imported knives. If you do, that's fine. More power, and good luck to you.

But to start a thread that's essentially "Help me call this one other member out because he called my favorite knife cheap garbage!" is weak clownshoes.

The Smith and Wesson CK113 was my first ever knife. It dropped out of my backpack and broke on the concrete basketball court ground. Then I bought some Spydercos and Lionsteels and never looked back. My friend still buys them because they "look like Call of Duty knives". The answer is that with knives you usually get the quality you pay for. We are not snobs at BF, we just emphasize high quality knives because we give credit where credit is due. And asking or steel type is something all knife nuts do, it's kind of like a doctor asking for height and weight at a physical.

It kinda sounds like you care just a little bit.

Quiet, of course I'm opinionated. We all are :). My point is not to call out another member, but a discussion was started and I didn't want to start this discussion back and forth in someone else's thread.

I have no agenda, but I'm tired of the bs at times. I understand that cheap imported knives are not the bees knees, but to rather spend good money on a blade and not be sure what steel your getting just doesn't make sense to me.

I have better blades, I stick with US made and trusted companies, but before I "knew any better" these 2 blades took good care of me.
