Important Info! Bladeforums Knife for 2017 - 6/26 Update!

Just ran home for lunch and this guy was waiting for me in my mailbox. What I find remarkable about this knife is that it pretty much screams, "Use me!!!". The standout feature for me is definitely the brushed bolsters, they turned out really well. I big thank you to Charlie for seeing to the design elements and a huge thank you to Barry for handling all of the logistics, it was no small task, I am sure.

This is the first forum knife I got to take part in (in terms of the selection process and such) and so, in a sense, it is a rather special knife. Thanks again all.

Firstly, big thanks to all that made it happen. I'm very impressed with the knife.

Now the real question as I'm another one of the guys with this being a first forum knife and it's also my first barlow or single blade slippie even, do people tend to collect the forums knives or do you slap it in the pocket and give it love? I feel like I should keep it safe for sentimental purposes but then again does using it and adding personal character to the knife make it more sentimental, or just used?

One "obsession" posing with my other obsession, as my wife likes to call them.

Edit: Just realized how well it goes with my vest pocket EDC knife.

I only have last year's knife and then this latest one. I've used the 2016 knife quite a bit and it is certainly a favorite. I plan on doing the same with the 2017 knife once all the dust has settled. Like with all of GEC's knives, this particular Barlow is built to be used and with proper use and care, will last you a lifetime.

Update: international orders are shipping today along with the rest of the domestic orders; you should get a tracking number if your email was current.

All the 'S' models are gone; PM me to get on the list for a reg. production model while they last. Members who have bought previous year's BF models but missed out this year will get priority.

Many of these will deliver TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PM sent last night, Barry. Hoping you got it...

Bob, I worry needlessly, probably one of the reasons I had a bleeding ulcer at 16, it came this afternoon and to quote Paul, "Woo hoo!"

It was a doubly great mail call today, I got both forum knives and they were both excellent, the one I opened and kept, surprisingly even cut (I won't say shaved) hair right outta the box. It was workably sharp. :) Also in today's mail my tickets I won from the local radio station to go see John Cougar Mellencamp next week. I'd say it was a great mail day. :)

Here it is, I opened it as I do every year with the previous year's knife.

A few more quick shots of the knife and tube till I can take some proper pics. Barry and crew, another excellent knife, I can't thank you all enough for keepin' the tradition alive. This is in my pocket already, now off to find things to cut.

Quick inspection, blade's centered, nothing's proud, grinds are even and parallel , even the swedges are well done. I'll post a better review when I post my official picture tread. :)

I'm gigglin' like a little kid. :)

A big thanks to Sue at GEC for stepping into the breach, and designing us a label in short order!
Our original designer got overextended at work, and the knives were backing up on the shipping table! I asked Sue to do a plain Black and White label with the info on it. She out-did herself!!
All happening while factory tours were in progress!!

Use it, carry it, show it some love and let it get all the character it can as each mark, stain, ding and the patina it develops will tell a story of your knife's journey through it's life time. I have knives over 150 years old I still use and carry so I'm sure someone, (hopefully a family member or friend's kid will hold your knife in his hand and ponder the patina and little nicks and dings wondering who and what kind of person carried the knife before he did. If you're really lucky the knife will wind up in the hands of someone who knew you or of you like a grandchild who will carry on the tradition and the story of this your first forum knife.

The very first forum knives from 2006-2008 were made in such small numbers, IIRC the 2006 ring turn pen knife from CSC had only 38 made. I used and carried mine and still do. The '06 has to be one of the rarest forum knives out there. So enjoy it and use it in good health. :)

Thanks for the pics, Jack; and for the pics and tales of traditions, Ted!!
I love your continuity of forums knives. I can't wait for the updated "family pic", so I can
change my desktop! Now there's one missing!!:D

"I think the simplicity of the label is an attraction, matches the utility aspect of the knife itself, well chosen Sue:cool:"

I completely agree, Will

Thank you very much Bob!

Both of my knives arrived safely today, with one joining the ranks of my humble collection and the other starting service as my New 1095 Steel Tradition EDC and I couldn't be more delighted...... Thank You Bob and Charlie, I'm one very "Happy Camper"... ;):):)

It's incredible! My first TC barlow and my second forum knife.
I am very thankful and appreciative that I own one of these. The efforts of the people who made this happen are not fruitless, they are genuinely appreciated and commemorated through the knives they produce and distribute. Thanks and I hope everyone enjoys their new knives!
