Sal, any chance that a special edition spyderco could be made and offered to the forum members? Something along the lines of a standard model (to minimize tooling costs) perhaps with an exotic blade steel such as CPM 440V or Talonite. To keep it affordable to as many forum members as possible I would love to see that blade material in something like a standard Delica or Endura G10 or zytel handle possibly in a color other than black for the uniqueness.

If such an idea were possible how many would have to be ordered to make it profitable for Spyderco?

Alex - We ae currently working on the "forumite" Tie Clipit. The original maker and the original tooling are not available.

We have since begun development of a new variation of this concept. The first of these, or a variation of same will be earmarked for the BladeForums members.

To make a variation of an existing model is much easier. Probably in the neighborhood of 500 pieces would have to be made to shoot a special color in a "Zytel" handle. Maybe a BladeForums.Com etching.

We could produce something like the "Native" in a blue G-10 handle, blue clip (for Sing) with a 440V blade. Existing tooling.

We could produce a variation in color of a new model currently in tooling. Such as a forrest green G-10 version of the Martial folder.

We're open to try. I would personally like to find out just how many forumites would be intersted in such a project anyway.

Mike and I both are interested in a BladeForums.com version of the Q as well. Too bad we didn't have more time at the SHOT show, we could have all sat down and brainstormed a design/ variation.

Wow Sal, thanks for the quick response!
Put me down for the first two if this ever materializes.

Sal,

If you go with your "Native" BladeForums idea, count me in.

Spark - Sorry about time at SHOT. appointments always work best. I'm really hard to just "catch" unoccupied.

Making a "Q" presents no problem. Contact Reggie in the Sales dept. He is currently handling "Q" design and can help you create the design. The BladeForums.Com logo would also look good in the "R" which is a very classy piece, but probably 4 times the price.

(The "R" is an Endura sized "Q" with an Almite coated aluminum handle that is "Cut out" as well. ATS-34. The "R" uses a standard forward position lockback and a standard tip up metal clip).

Either way, I think it would be a fun project.

Sal, it's not your fault, we should have been more proactive and scheduled an appointment when we had the chance, way back when!

An "R" design, or a Native (now that I look at it) both sound very nice as well. Too many good knives to choose from, maybe you should reduce your SKU's!!!

Seriously though, this idea has a lot of merit, and I'm sure the members would be more than happy to get their hands on a limited production piece.

Sal,
Put me down for at least a couple of the blue Natives &/or the forrest green G-10 Martial folders if you do go forward w/the idea. I have a Delica & a Ladybug in OD Green from a few years ago & would love to have something else other than black.

I'm popping in and out of this forum while in between breaks from writing a report. Each time I come, read a post, I get happier than a pig in ----. Must be the yin and yang thing. The good with the bad...

Sal, A BLUE NATIVE WITH G10, 440 and a BLUE CLIP TOO!!! Sign me on for a couple of those!!!!

I've already turned on a couple of my friends to the Native. I'm sure they'll get one too.

Here's a "don't do this at home" story with the Native. My friend got the Native after seeing mine. Decided to test the blade by slicing a piece of paper which he held with the other hand. (What was on his mind!?) Slicing closer and closer to the paper holding hand ... You guessed it. He sliced his thumb nail in half. His response... "That hurt! Damn good knive though."

GO NATIVE, GO. My Chinese New Year gift is here.

I'd have to jump in on this one too. The Native and the green Martial both sound good.

Sal,

I'm quite gratified to hear that you are moving forward with the Tie Clipit run as I started that thread. Anything you do in the way of special offerings for us (forumites) beyond that can only be considered pure gravy!

Thanks!

Regarding the Native, there is an interesting history that few know. The "Native" is short for Native American. A percentage of the sale of each Native goes into a fund to assist with Native American development. Not big yet, but we believe it will become a useful addition. Not something that we want to be loud about, because it makes the act seem more like a marketing ploy, which was not the intention. We believe that the private sector needs to be more responsible and thus have more control in this particualr problem. The US govt, though they have tried their best, have not served this problem well.

The Native sounds best to me, BLUE NATIVE WITH G10, seems very cool. The Q has not done it for me yet....

Sal -

Another second on the blue Native. My Zytel model is one of my favorite carries, and I could PROBABLY convince my wife that I need another one...

Oh yes, I'm in the que for this too. C'mon all you forumites and let Sal know we're interested. If we step up to the bar and lay our money down, we may see some of those Special requests come true.(ihopeihopeihope)

I'd pre-order as few Natives with a 440V blade! Sal, great work and you interest in Customers is appreciated! An old Spyderco Customer. BTW, thanks for giving the State Employees Fraternal Order of Police (Lodge #28) a great deal on the Enduras.
