Blades & Bourbon

Something told me to make a stop at our local ABC on the way back from Harbor Freight/Lowes. They had a single bottle of Eagle Rare 10yo on the shelf that evidently had been hiding for over a month. $48...mine!

Nice score! I found this Blood Oath Pact 9 on sale in Pascagoula MS last year for about 50% off MSRP and grabbed it. Hadn’t tasted any of the previous releases. Decided to crack it for the fall season. It’s quite good but I’m glad I didn’t pay retail. Bit of a hype monster. I guess people like the high end blends in a fancy box. The prices on the aftermarket are crazy. There are some really good bourbons out there in the -/+ $150 range!IMG_0715.jpeg

Buffalo Trace was my house bourbon when I could get it regularly.
Agree. BT is consistently great. Prices and availability seem to be coming back down to earth. I keep a handle of Evan Williams BIB (white label) in my cabinet for mixing and sipping. Killer classic bourbon taste and tremendous value. And 100 proof helps it go a long way ;-)

I subscribe to the Pinhook Vertical Straight Bourbon War Series which started with Year 4 and I just received this pair of bottles for Year 10.

I only included the Chinese cleaver (that I use for pretty much everything in the kitchen) in the pic because this is supposed to be a Blades & Bourbon thread.

LOL! ;)

It's 115.9 proof & is a bit too sharp straight from the bottle for my taste but mellows out (like a good scotch) with a little water added. I haven't done a side by side comparison of the bottles by year yet but will do so after the series ends with Year 12.

I'm not good at describing the aroma & taste of anything that I drink (liquor or wine). I just know what I like but here's a link to a review of this release that does that & also explains the concept behind the series: Breaking Bourbon Review of Pinhook Vertical 10

Buffalo Trace is my go to bourbon. I buy it by the 1/2 doz at my local WinCo where they sell it at about a 15-20% discount below other places at about $24-26/bottle.
