The Trek has begun!! 😁 The wife wanted to do a little hike so we went up the Mountain 1.5miles to the Pa/NY line and back down to the trailhead. Saves me 3miles off tomorrows 13miler. That way I won’t have to do 2 13mile days in a row. Sunny breezy 60deg day. Tomorrow is the start of many 10mile plus days in a row.

This is kind of my standard kit for distance backpacking. Mostly Appalachian/Southeast type trails. I honestly don’t need the Mora, but I made the decision a long time ago that if out and about and I’m able to, I will always have a fixed blade on my person. Granted, this is the small Mora, but I still bring it along and use it for camp chores and if I actually get the opportunity to make a fire.

I’m normally a little heavier in the tool department with a military background, but for distance backpacking, you have to weigh decisions with ounces, understand risk, and develop a sense of confidence in your gear (and decision making) to minimize unnecessary kit/weight. Many ultralightweight hikers would consider my choices overkill, but I’m comfortable and confident with them and I still keep my base-weight around 13-14 pounds.

Solid choices for lightweight blades, IMO.
