Photos Blades on Hikes

This little guy is only about 13 but he’s showing his age… :)

Might not be up for long backpacking trips like in the past, but he still likes hikes - especially with his new jacket!

finding mushroom in the night was one of my favourite thing to do.
curiously, does dog know a mushroom eatable or not? or they just don't eat any fungi?

I'm gonna say no on that. dawgs are scavengers. they can eat rotted garbage that would make you sick and dead. one could be trained to find truffles and maybe other certain fungi, but not all good mushrooms from all poison mushrooms.

It's been a weak winter in parts of the West - from about 2.5 months ago:

Our vet had a warning posted that locally a dog died from eating a poison mushroom.

Right after I bought my house. My wife had a Chinese couple walking by ask for permission to pick the mushrooms in our front yard.

In the 20 years since I have never seen another mushroom in our yard. Or any Chinese people in the neighborhood for that matter.

It is such a shame some mushrooms are poisonous, I have seen so many that looked delicious. It would be cool to be able to try them all.

In trying to educate myself on the subject I came to realize it was not worth the risk. This one was especially tempting. I probably shouldn’t have even touched it without gloves. View attachment 2513272

sometimes I found serrated edge is more helpful in outdoor activities
Interesting! Could you tell me more about that? I thought that serrations are bad at chopping wood or whittling. In fact, the only thing I think serrations cut better than plain edge is flesh (animal or human). Am I wrong?

Another report of downed trees today.
(Oh no!!! 😉)
Brought a couple of favorites along.

Took out some small stuff and then found a “medium” sized tree blocking the trail.

So I dropped my belt and got to work.

Then on the hike back I took advantage of the rain to start wet-forming this sheath…
