The thread about Longmire reminded me of another book series that gave an excellent and long lasting TV show (spread on 8 years). Detective stories (the hero smokes a bull-faced pipe), titles relate to the district were action happens (a wink to Eugene Sue's "The Mysteries of Paris"), with the period glamour pin-up on cover. Those were the days...

This is one of the most excellent books of this genre. The writing and illustrations by 2 icons of the wooden boat realm, allow boatbuilding to seem possible for the dreamers and practical to those who make the effort.

The sailor's knife by José Antonio Herreros of Albacete Spain, with teak handles from a Maine boat yard.

The prices listed are no longer relevant (if Parkers book ever was) but I think they'll make good reference material. Many pictures with dates and model numbers and tang stamps of many brands. The 11th edition book is from 1996.
