Blatant Civilian ripoff by CS?

Nope, IMHO, other than blade shape, they look nothing alike.

It's old news, but what I do find fascinating that at a street price approaching a used sebenza, you still get what other knife companies sell for $100.

Lynn didn't asked up front, he and Sal came to a agreement after the distribution was halted due to legal dificulties between CS and Spyderco. Lynn then offered to pay royalties on the patented blade configuration

the cs one looks nicer than the civilian/matriarch, but its way too expensive for my taste.

The spyderco civillian has a weak tip on the blade, the cs seems much stronger made out of their san mai blade steel. Seems to be a better made, more sturdy knife but heck how can you go wrong with a spyderco civillian.

What? The tip is just as weak and thin, "San Mai" is just AUS-8 laminated with 420 stainless, VG-10 is better steel and how can you tell it's made better? Because it has a bolster?

Isn't the whole point of the Civilian's design that it has a thin tip anyway? As I recall it is meant for slashing up drug dealers, not chopping firewood.

at least Lynn pays royalties. I wonder if BM does?.......

I like s-shaped blades...they're not meant fro thrusting through hard wood or chopping, but for slashing, they work well with their thin tips.

is San Mai only AUS8core? I thought they used something better....tsk, tsk....

I'm curious as to how people know that the tip on the Civilian is so "weak" and "thin". When I held one, the tip didn't seem very thin. As a matter of fact, the spine behind the tip was thicker than the Manix, Para and Yojimbo. Has anyone actually broke the tip off of a Civilian? What were you doing?

Thicker than the Manix? not according to stats.

Earlier models of the Civilian models had a very thin tip, almost paper thin.
On later models that tip was thickened substantially.
Maybe someone has photo's to compare old versus new Civilians ?

This is how the origional "black sable" was presented to the general public on "Shot show" in 2003.

This was a blatant Spyderco copy.

The spine at the base of the blade on the Manix is thicker. It tapers towards the tip to a pretty fine point. I'm referring to the spine behind the tip on the Civilian. You'll notice the same on the Endura- thinner at the base, thicker behind the tip compared to the Manix.
