Blazing orange....

Okay - first apologies for starting too many threads in one day. I guess I just have a lot to say this weekend :D The reason I'm posting this thread is to talk about the advantage of colour. Last fall, Becky managed to lose the awesome molded sheath of my RC-3 :( She didn't have the sheath attached to her belt, pulled it out to cut something and put the sheath down, 10 minutes later she realized she didn't have the sheath. We looked around like crazy for it but couldn't find it. The fact that the sheath was coyote brown and lost in prairie where everything is coyote brown didn't help much.

On my last order from KSF - where I bought the Izula, I also order two more items - a clovis sheath as a replacement sheath for my RC-3 and some blaze paracord. The paracord provides a great way to accent colour on your knives. The blaze orange and glowblue G10 handles were and still are popular, but not everybody wants a G10 handle or maybe the knife you want doesn't come with that as an option. The coloured paracord provides a good option to spruce up your knife. Use it as your lanyard or as the paracord loops on your kydex and now you have colour-popping visuals to help you spot your gear in the grass. Okay - it all looks a bit pumpkinish, but I rather look like a Jack-o-lantern than searching the grass for my stuff.

Here is a shot of the clovis sheath for the RC-3. Fits great, nice and snug, attractive and comfy on the belt. It secures the knife well even when inverted and shaking the knife - it won't fall out. All that for $16.

Holy Jack-O-Lantern pumpkinness. Izula and re-wrapped Jimmy Wade Necker. I'm not going to lose these boys!

A couple shots of the Wade Scandi (Sabre :D) Necker all polished up. You can see my little micro-bevel in the close up shot. This thing does the fuzzies nicely too.

I have some red guyline with reflective thread that I use. It's not as bright and the reflective parts are a big plus if it's dark...just shine the flashlight around. You can also buy paracord that has the reflective bits in it.

I've been thinking about this too. I ordered some orangle whistle zipper pulls from goinggear to add a little extra visibility.

I love that wrapping and cord work. I wish I was batter at that. Of course the knives are great too.:D

A while back I bought some utility cord (its not paracord, so unfortunately it doesn't have removable interior strands) that had a highly reflective strand braided in with it... Even in the daylight I can take out a flashlight and shine it around until I see the sparkles. Without direct light, it just looks like blue cord. You can see it shining from the flash in this pic...

Thanks udtjim. I kind of suck at the wrapping. For the necker - really it is just as simple as starting with one end half way down the centre of the knife, running a turn at the ricasso and wrapping until I hit the end. I just trim the end piece to fit, melt it and hit it with a drop of super glue. Very basic. The Izula is wrapped as per the very simple instructions provided with the knife. You need to have a running down the centre of the knife to do it. I imagine the same kind of wrap can be done on the Professional soldier.

I've done similiar in the past with cord.
Also for temperary projects I've just tied some surveyors tape on the end.
Sometimes I tie a bit of surveyors tape on it when I am heading out, then just cut it off when I get home.
I do it on a lot of things such as my key ring

I did the same with my BK11. I hate losing stuff in the woods. Also the reason I went with the orange handle on my RC-4.

I think my wife could do a pretty nice cord wrap, Gotta get her to try it. She is good at braiding and leather work.

Feeling the orange with ya there. :D

Not to be a spoil-sport, but in my neck of the woods, through much of the autumn, orange blends in on the ground better than green. (Maple and oak leaves all over.)

Having said that, I do like the idea. Plus I think it looks cool. :D I picked up a slab of orange G10 when it was available, and wish I had more... it's almost gone due to selling scales and doing rehandle projects for folks. Orange 550 cord will definitely be on my list next time I order supplies.

That clovis sheath is very nice, but the stock sheath for the RC-3 is one of the things I really like about the knife. Just in case, k, you didn't know, replacement sheaths are available in different colours (brown here). I think I'm going to order a black one, one of these days.
