OK, all of you knife makers - I need a block of Kingwood.
I have a knife coming up on my list and I can't seem to find the Kingwood I need short of buying a minimum order somewhere of a hundred bucks or more.
Any of you guys got a chunk?
I need something in the 1 7/8" range - 1 1/2" won't do.
Anyone?

Para king wood??
Has a purplelish tint. Figured like cocobolo??

Bobby, it's either called "Mexican Kingwood" or "Brazilain Kingwood".
I guess you could call it sort of cocobolo-ish.
I just looked it up and guess I learned something.
Here's what a wood site said for "common names"
:Goncalo alves, Kingwood, Zebrawood, Zorrowood, Tigerwood, Mura, Urunday-para, Bois de zebre, Bossona

Karl, I have a couple of 1.5 x 1.5 X12, but not quite sure that they are dry. I will send you a piece if you want. Jim's woods from the blade show always has some nice stuff if that helps, let me look to see what I have, I have a 1 in board but thats not big enough. Bill

I think I have a chunk I can cut for you (dalbergia cearensis). It's quatersawn with nice-straight grain. I just need to find out if it's big enough.

Ok, I don't have much left, and it's a little messed up. The cleanest block has some old heart rot. Dimensions are 5"x2"x1" with wane due to the rot. I'll send you some photos if you'd like.

I need something wider.
I'll never be able to figure out who came up with 1 1/2" for ALL handle material.

Karl, I've got what I think you need... would a piece 2"x3"x6" work? If so, it'll be brought with me this weekend and placed into your hands.
