Blue #2 or white paper

I am already stocked up om CFV :D
Yeah, if you want to buy a whole sheet of it. It would be nice to have the guys who stock knife steel have this stuff cut up in bar form for us, so we can try a bar or two before jumping in for a full sheet. I will say, tho, once you find a steel you really like, it makes better sense to get as much as you can. If CFV ever was made again, that would be my choice for stocking up!

I was always surprised that cruforgeV didn't catch on more than it did..Really nice steel. We have made a lot of woodworking tools from it..Some drawknives, inshaves and chisels. They all performed very well.

The Crucible bankruptcy killed it. By they time that it caught on, it was no longer in production. so I guesss a lot of people figured why falling love with a steel that will no longer be available. The Survive knives folks seem to like it.

i agree, i was thinking of a sheet, then had to retire and lost machine shop access. the steel is available, it just doesn't have the 'right' name. if you fibbed a bit and said 1.2419 was blue#2, you would be sold out in a day. 1.2419, 1.2519, and 1.2842 all would be welcome additions to our steels toolbox. The choices for carbon steel are pretty limited. O1 and A2 are easy to find, 1084 and W2 if you buy right after Aldo receives a batch, 80CrV2 and 52100 in limited sizes, and 1095 that may or may not be 1095.

The 52100 and 80CrV2 may be the most readily accessible for us knife knerds because you have a couple of suppliers. The same for good quality 1084/1080. You can also find W1 from multiple sources but perhaps not cheap. Yo are right in that you can also find all of the possibly questionable 10XX steel that you can shake a stick at. ;)

That was one of the complaints about 52100 back in the day. You couldn't get it any other way and that didn't work for stock removal guys.
For carbon steels, are rods acceptable? Since people will most likely forge

You can buy W1 and O1 in large drill rod form several palces..Graingers W1 is very good steel..
