Blue Out of the Blue

Beautiful night Sarah, but its origin is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma. Not me.

Wow, Sarah, I didn't know you were THAT kind of girl? :p;)

Sarah, congratulations on your surprise blue fixed blade!:thumbup:
I know virtually nothing about fixed blades, but it sure looks like a splendid knife to the naked eye of this untrained observer.
As a strigophile, you probably feel compelled to ask, "Who??", but remember Alfred, Lord Tennyson's wise words (or at least a paraphrase of them):
Ours is not to reason who, ours is but to ahh and ooh. :D

C'était moi...

Knowing of her predilection for blades hafted in that hue, and after reading the "Song Sung BLUE" thread, I stumbled across the Traveller wilst looking for something else.

It was a completely spontaneous purchase on my part for a porch denizen that I have the utmost respect for and I'm glad it was well received.

I was however, unaware that it would arrive completely anonymously. I thought there would at least be some sort of reference to the purchaser.

So I was surprised at the surprise myself...

Handsome and generous gift, AKC. And congrats, Sarah, on such a blue-tiful addition to your collection.

:D That gave me a good laugh, Alan.

A cool knife from a forum friend and a funny story to go along with it. That's pretty hard to beat in my book. Congrats on the new blue, Sarah!

C'était moi...

Aha!

Thank you again!!!

Wow, did you surprise me, and with such an exceptional knife!

I wish you could have seen my excitement and the mad dashes that brought the knife to ME, there at the end of the day on Wednesday. Your package, which I of course did not know was from you, had shown up earlier in my myusps.com tracking-- from Germany(!).

I followed its progress, puzzled and intrigued, only to see that it had not been left at my house as scheduled due to no one's being there to sign. NO NO NO NO!

So, I jumped in my JERP, ran home to retrieve the slip from the mail box, and started running down mail trucks. It only took two; the mailman in the vicinity of the first truck (which did not have my package) knew from my address where I would most likely find the truck and (substitute) mail carrier in question, a range of blocks. Off I went again until I found the truck, the mailman, and the package. Whew!

And, an impressive package it was!

Visual impact, and everything!

I raced back to work and opened the knife with work friends in a discreet area on the premises (I was going to wait until I got home for the day, but: NO), bowled away while marveling aloud,

"Someone sent me this knife (oohs and aahs all around), and I DON'T KNOW WHO!" (Appreciative wonder.)

So very fun!

Actually, my very first loud words, before I fully knew what I was looking at but had glimpsed something important, were,

"IT'S BLUE!!!!!!!!!"

:-)

You are too kind; I am overwhelmed by your thoughtfulness.

"Blue" is actually hard to do well, and this is some of the best I've seen, the way the variation in hues makes for visual interest up close, and a great overall look from any distance. That the micarta is made from actual blue jean denim helps explain its Perfection. Blue and silver? What a great look!

I noticed that the underside of the sheath's strap snap was scritching the handle, so cut and glued a small patch of leather to cover it-- in a certain color, of course.

:D

Yes, the completely-anonymous, direct-from-German-vendor thing added Bafflement, indeed. Hence, my quick post here in Traditional-- I wanted to make sure that whoever had bestowed on me such a wonderful gift knew ASAP that I had received it, and was astonished and grateful.

The knife is larger than I'm used to, but its balance and ergonomics render it so very comfortable in-hand that I quickly moved past overwhelmed into wanting to sit straighter, walk taller, and Go Do Stuff with it.

Thank you, Alan.

This is grand.

Great tale of how this came to be, AKC and Pertinux! The unbeknownst anonymous sender and the mad dash to track down the correct mail man had me giggling over my morning coffee. Congrats, P! It's a beautiful knife. Much like GT, I have an untrained eye towards fixed blades, but I sure am a sucker for Micarta spacers that contrast the handle material.

Well done, AKC! Extremely generous of you!

That's really cool Alan and Sarah!
Sarah, I don't know whether I love or hate that myusps.com thing. Someone in my family is always having something shipped to my house, usually not for me! My inbox is a perpetual stream of package activity.

Thx! And thank Alan, most of all, ever!

Ugh-- I would hate that! I do not have email notifications activated, so am spared the constant dribble of information regarding packages, intended for me or otherwise.

I poked my head into myusps.com to check on something else, and this Mystery Package had appeared.

Such fun! Even the site-only tracking can be problematic, and ruin intended surprises (if one recognizes an address/area from which something 'unexpected' is being sent), but in this instance it made for much anticipatory suspense, and a mad Jerp dash at the end. :)
