Once again the Blade Show has come and gone leaving behind great memories of time spent with friends old and new. Without trying to name all the names I want to thank all of you who helped make this a great experience for both Tina and me.
Despite going to this year's show with little in the way of expectation I was able to grab a handful of knives that really spoke to me on one level or another, each of which represents not only excellence in terms of the knifemaking art but carries with it a small token of my relationship with its maker. I am truly proud to own each and every one of them.
In addition to the knives displayed below, I will have a Richard Rogers sowbelly stockman in ivory incoming in the next month or two. Richard was kind enough to offer me a jigged bone sowbelly at the show but told me if I wanted to wait until just afterward he'd be able to fix me up with the scales of my choice. This will be my first by Richard so I'm pretty excited to add one of his to my collection.
Now on to the knives...
First up is a group shot of the five knives I came home with this year:
L-R: Chamblin, Erickson, Pena, Halfrich, Halfrich
(I'll present some images and info about the knives in the order in which they were purchased at the show in order to avoid any indication of preference.)
The first knife I got at the show is a prototype "Tracker" model by Jerry Halfrich in (true) amber stag. It's a big knife at 4 3/8" closed and weighs in at 4 1/8 ounces. It feels remarkably light in the hand and is so ergonomically shaped and balanced it's a joy to hold and deploy. The steel, as usual with Jerry, is CPM-154 brought to a superlative edge.
My next purchase was from Joel and Sandi Chamblin and I think I got pretty lucky snagging this one. It got lots of raves from the show attendees that had a chance to see it.
This one is a Remington "Bullet" lockback reduced to a wonderful 3 3/4" size. This knife has Culpepper dyed stag and ATS-34 and weighs in at 2 3/4 ounces.
