Once again the Blade Show has come and gone leaving behind great memories of time spent with friends old and new. Without trying to name all the names I want to thank all of you who helped make this a great experience for both Tina and me.

Despite going to this year's show with little in the way of expectation I was able to grab a handful of knives that really spoke to me on one level or another, each of which represents not only excellence in terms of the knifemaking art but carries with it a small token of my relationship with its maker. I am truly proud to own each and every one of them.

In addition to the knives displayed below, I will have a Richard Rogers sowbelly stockman in ivory incoming in the next month or two. Richard was kind enough to offer me a jigged bone sowbelly at the show but told me if I wanted to wait until just afterward he'd be able to fix me up with the scales of my choice. This will be my first by Richard so I'm pretty excited to add one of his to my collection.

Now on to the knives...

First up is a group shot of the five knives I came home with this year:

L-R: Chamblin, Erickson, Pena, Halfrich, Halfrich

(I'll present some images and info about the knives in the order in which they were purchased at the show in order to avoid any indication of preference.)

The first knife I got at the show is a prototype "Tracker" model by Jerry Halfrich in (true) amber stag. It's a big knife at 4 3/8" closed and weighs in at 4 1/8 ounces. It feels remarkably light in the hand and is so ergonomically shaped and balanced it's a joy to hold and deploy. The steel, as usual with Jerry, is CPM-154 brought to a superlative edge.

My next purchase was from Joel and Sandi Chamblin and I think I got pretty lucky snagging this one. It got lots of raves from the show attendees that had a chance to see it.

This one is a Remington "Bullet" lockback reduced to a wonderful 3 3/4" size. This knife has Culpepper dyed stag and ATS-34 and weighs in at 2 3/4 ounces.

(continued...)

Next up was one of the very pleasant surprises for me at the show. I've had the opportunity to speak with Enrique Pena on the phone and admire some of the images of his work. Bill Ruple had told me on the phone that he is the "real deal" and now I know that Bill wasn't pulling my leg. Enrique's workmanship is excellent and even more astonishing when you realize that he's only been at his craft for about 3 1/2 years. Definitely a "new" maker to watch and a nice guy to boot.

When I picked up this "gunstock jack" and looked at the fit and finish, I couldn't leave it on the table. The knife is 4 3/8" closed and weighs 5 ounces. The bone is from Culpepper in what they call their "Rogers Jig". Steel is CPM-154.

The fourth knife of the show returns to my close compadre, Jerry Halfrich.

This one is a prototype he calls the "Euro" since it features a spearpoint reminiscent of many Solingen made knives of days gone by.
The knife is 4 1/4" long and due to the linerless carbon fiber scales weighs a scant 1 7/8 ounces. It's sharp, extremely well radiused and feels great in the hand.

This one had been in Jerry's pocket as his carry knife when he arrived at the show. He went home with a production knife in his pocket instead. 'Nuff said.

And finally, the last knife I was fortunate enough to pick up at the show is a lovely ivory scaled wharncliffe trapper by Ken Erickson. I purchased this one from a couple of forum friends who I happened to run into after breakfast on Saturday morning.

The knife is 3.5" closed, weighs in at 2 5/8 ounces and the blades are ATS-34. Just couldn't resist adding to the ivory dogleg and "80" pattern whittler I'd gotten from Ken in the past.

Hope you all enjoy looking at them as much as I enjoy sharing them.

Oh my! That is a "Blade haul"! All very beautiful knives. I particularly like the Pena. Looking forward to more photos and text on these knives.

Elliott, you were right about the Chamblins. Very nice people, and that bullet of yours is extra special. Congrats. Great selections.

Elliott - great to see you again. Sorry there wasn't more time to visit - the show seems to go by faster each year!

Looks like an awesome group - congrats! I've got a few of Richard's knives - I know you will enjoy that one when it arrives.

Bill

Jerry continues to do great things with CF, very svelte.

I was unable to attend Blade (my Mother has been very ill) this year. Maybe next year...

Elliott those look great!

I really like that gunstock that you got from Enrique; I don't generally care for larger knives, but his look incredible!

Wow, every single one is gorgeous but I especially like the Chamblin lockback, just beautiful!!

That carbon fibre Halfrich is absolutely stunning!! *keeps salivating without any control*

Congrats on the new family members Elliott. They are all beauties. I've been anxiously waiting for some pics :D

The Chamblin bullet is a beauty. I could see that knife in pocket for a long time... To me it says a lot about a knife, when custom makers offer their rendition of a classic.

Now, on to the Pena gunstock.... He hit the color on the bone, out of the park on that one .

Sounds like you had a great trip.

That's a nice haul!

The Chamblin Remington Bullet is my favorite, but there ain't a bad one in the bunch if you ask me.

As always I had a great time at the blade show. But what makes it great is seeing people you know and meeting new ones.
Elliott, I appreciate you posting the pictures of the knives that you got at blade, looks like you made out pretty good. I'm proud that you included one of mine in your purchases. They all look great and I know you'll enjoy them.
I appreciate the comments from the other forum members about my knife as well. I know I met some of the members at the show but unfortunately the only name I can remember is BLACKMAMBA, and it was a pleasure meeting him. Again thanks for the comments.
Joel

Just an unreal group of knives! I'd be happy with any one of them but I really like that Pena Gunstock.

Great haul Elliott. I'm especially smitten by the two stag handled beauties.

Elliot that is a great take.
Man o man I wish I could have grabbed something like that.
Back to putting coins in the piggy bank.

Thanks, guys. I really appreciate the comments and more so, I know how much the makers enjoy knowing that their hard work doesn't go unappreciated. Thanks for taking the time to post your thoughts.:cool:
