Blur is in the house

If they’d just kill the Speedsafe and Recurve… basically redesign the whole knife. ;)

Huge Kershaw / KAI / ZT fan here and I’ve never owned a Blur. I carried 0566s for many years, tried again with the 0770CF (great EDC) and just cannot bring myself to do the assisted thing anymore. Really wish Kershaw and ZT would make manual versions of every SpeedSafe knife they make.

I think the reason a lot of people are ok with the SpeedSafe is it retains washers. I still have my SpeedSafe knives within easy reach if I think I need a washer knife.

Great choice. Blurs are addicting; I have several in different iterations, including the S30V, but my favorite is probably either the discontinued carbon fiber version in 154CM steel or the sprint run with brown scales and a blackwashed Elmax blade. All my Blurs are de-assisted (spring bar removed) because I like having control over the speed of the blade deployment. I also prefer the blade geometry (flat grind vs hollow) of the S30V to that of the 14C28N version.

If only that worked well. Assisted knives are built to be assisted knives. Simply removing the spring doesn’t make for a good (or safe) knife. The detents aren’t set up for use without the spring tension, the action sucks because it’s on washers that need a spring to get enough energy to flip the knife open. If only it were that easy.

But it does work well for me. Every single one of mine fly open with minimal effort, and I've never had a safety problem. Same with my ZT 0350.

I found this forum shortly after I ordered the Blur. I was getting a bit concerned that I was seeing almost no info on any Kershaws, and feared I had made a bad first choice despite doing a lot of research first. So it’s really great to see all the high praise this knife gets from actual owners. Right now I almost feel stupid being an old fart and feeling so giddy about this blade, like a kid on Christmas morning getting that one new toy that makes all the rest irrelevant. It’s not like I don’t buy myself stuff, this is just a very different kind of buy. Probably because all my other pocket knives were SAK gifts, and this is the first one I researched the crap out of and picked for myself out of the thousands of other options.

As for de-assisting, like everything else, it’s a matter of personal preference, so I’m not going to argue for or against. Again, after researching and watching a lot of reviews, assist seemed to be the way to go for me, and Kershaw’s Speed-safe gets nothing but great reviews everywhere I’ve looked. Now, after having mine for almost a day, I definitely would not want to be without it. That same spring action that helps it open, keeps it from closing too fast if I’m too slow getting fingers out of the way, which is a must-have for first-timers like me with such a tool.

I’m gonna go slice up a sheet of paper now. Because I can.

I like Ken Onion designs and the Blur is a decent hard use folder that's been used by a lot of people out there. I picked mine up when they released it with M4 steel. Kershaw do have some cheap stuff that's on par with CKRT, but like CKRT they've also done a good job working with talented knife designers. Kershaw make some bargain versions of the Zero Tolerance models and have some other decent knives, like the Dividend, Skyline, Link, Bareknuckle, Cryo II, and Emerson CQC,

Nice! I have a CPM-440V Millie, also a bit scared to use, but the retention on that is high! That's a valuable knife, my mane, quite nice. Hollow ground, or am I tripping?
Thanks brotha 🤙. No this one actually has the flat grind. It does kinda look hollow in the picture. Yea, it does have a decent little value compared to what I bought it for, but it has more sentimental value to me. I couldn't ever sell it. It takes me back to the good old days when I first started getting my first real quality knives.

That CPM-440V Millie is badass! I remember those from back in the day and I've seen a couple pics of one around over the last little bit, it was probably yours. Yea I always wanted to get one of those to kind of match the S60v on this one.

The Blur is a fantastic first serious knife and a fantastic serious 100th knife. It was actually my first serious knife too. I bought mine about 15 years ago from a local gun show from "Kershaw Guy". I got lucky and got into the Blur game at the right time when the S60V versions had just come out. I was looking at his table of knives and asked him which one was his favorite and he said "This is the hot one that everyone wants right now", and I really liked it so I picked that one. I planned to use it, and still want to but it turned out that they only made 300 total of them so it still sits here on my desk unused. I've had quite a few other Blurs throughout the years. Currently I have this S60v version, a 14c28n version, and a S30v version.

Any chance you’d ever part with this? I’ve always loved Blurs and just started collecting the older, short-run ones. This is really nice.

Would you consider parting with any of your sprint run models? You’re right, they are addicting! 😁

Kershaw Blur S30V was just delivered, along with a Smith’s combo diamond sharpener. My first serious knife that I bought myself that isn’t a SAK. After just a couple of open-and-closes, the action softened up to where I could flip it open and close it with one hand, which I consider an accomplishment since I’ve never touched anything with assisted open before. Liner lock is very easy to open. And holy crap is it sharp. Oh, and sorry about the black handle. :p

Tomorrow I’ll be splitting my time between flipping it open and closed and looking for more stuff to sharpen while ‘working from home’.

Always loved these knives, but the recurved blade always prevented me from buying. I like your black handle, it looks very nice!

You should look at the Link, it has a 3.25” blade. Sweet knife, House of Blades have a couple in 20CV steel.

The original Link was, and is, one of my top ten favorites knives. I had the aluminum handle 420HC version.

By far, the best 420HC I've handled. I could get it ridiculously sharp, and maintain the edge by stropping. I gave it to a friend years ago, but I wish I still had the knife, haha.

No boss, sorry but I'll never part with this one. It's too sentimental to me. I do have a Blur with a black aluminum handle and black (DLC) Sandvik blade that I could part with if you wanted it though.

Are just the blades available anywhere? With different grinds (non-recurve) would be even better. I'd love a better steel on my OD Blur.
