The 942 arrived today. First impression is very nice and bigger than I thought by the comments I have read on it. I am happy to see that Bench Made has put a nice thin grind on this knife, much thinner than I have seen on other BM’s. Will do a little cutting and carrying, then let everyone know what I think of it. Good-looking knife.

I will be passing this knife on hopefully tomorrow. Going to try and pack it up tonight, if I can get it packed, someone sliced up the box it came in.

I really liked carrying this knife even in shorts it carries very comfortablely. The action on this knife is about as smooth as I have ever seen. It is really a joy to open. For me I couldn’t get use to closing it and is the main thing I didn’t like about the knife. The other thing I didn’t like was the space between the front of the handle and the cutting edge. Over all I give the knife a 7 out of 10.

Really enjoyed being a part of this pass around. Thanks!

I received the passaround about 10 minutes ago. My initial impressions are that it is nicer than I expected.

My history with Benchmade hasn't been pretty, this is the first BM knife I have held in about 7 years. I am pleasantly surprised that the execution seem fine. Even finish, smooth opening, even grinds etc.

This is my first axis lock and I like it. Easy to engage and disengage, and holds the blade firmly when locked open.

Knife Design - This is going to be personal preference, so use a large grain of salt. The blade is too long and it's ugly. The thumb ramp needs to be more pronounced as does the front finger guard. The whole handle needs more contour to better fit in the hand.

The swedge on the top of the blade is more pronounced near the handle and less so near the tip, so the tip is thicker. I don't know why it's this way, and almost wonder if the swedge in non functional design element.

I think dual thumbstuds are a fad, in fact I think they are a negative, especially with a tip up knife like this one. They increase the chances the blade will open when drawn from the pocket.

So after all that ragging I'll keep an eye out on a more to my liking axis lock benchmade, this one is still fun despite the things I don't like.

Thanks,

:(

OK, I'm one of them, I had this an extra day or so. It should go out today.

Thanks everyone!

I got it today. This thing is smooth. It's a little bigger than I remember the 943 that I handled a while back being. I'll write a little more later.

While I'm not involved in the pass around, I think my comentary is pertinent.

I had never owned a Benchmade knife but had seen so many positive posts here and on knifeforums.com that I recommended my best buddy of 20 years to look into them as he was looking to replace his old and worn Spydie and the Benchmades seemed to be in the right price range.

My friend and I have always had slightly different views on things like knives and motorcycles, with me being more traditional and he liking more avant guarde designs. He ended up buying a BM942 (black handle & blade with the reverse tanto grind) and seems to love it.\

When I went through my most recent EDC crisis (about 9 mos ago) I ended up settling for a small Sebenza for business wear and a Socom Elite for more casual wear. I had considered the 940 because it seemed to have all the qualifications and was more affordable thaneither of the two knives I ended up with. I just couldn't fall in love with the blade shape. I know it's functionally a great design, I just couldn't want one.

Then the other day I was in the local knife shop and saw a BM with a cool red handle. A model BM941 BC1. A Special Edition run of 500 with a Boron Carbide coated blade. Oh my! It was the same frame as my buddy's 942 but with a drop point blade instead of the reverse Tanto. Pretty much just what I had been looking for when I bought the lil Sebbie and the Socom.

This knife is sweet!!! I have nice things to compare it to and I must say I'm impressed.

I was always skeptical about the Benchmade brand because of their unconventional designs and more specifically the Axis lock. I am happy to say that I am now a BM convert. The 941 is a sleek , lightweight knife with a solid blade and chassis. The red anodizing and the Boron Carbide blade make for a striking package. The aluminum handles and the154CM blade make for a tough package.

I forgot to ask you guys...are you guys sharpening it when you're finished? I use a Sharpmaker and I put a 30 degree edge on my knives--anyone mind if I do the same for this one?

O.K. The knife is in the mail to ZENGHOST. Let me start by saying that I really like this knife. When I got it the edge was hair popping sharp. Whoever touched it up before I got it did a nice job. A guy at work asked to see it, and went to shave his arm. The hair jumped off before he could shave it. Okay, it just took a big clump of hair off very easily. After cutting things with it for a couple days(I searched for anything that could possibly be cut), it still shaved, it just took more pressure. I swiped it on my jeans three or four times and it was back to shaving sharp. The handle contours were comfortable in my hand, but I do wish the knife were just a little bigger. I would like a wider handle. I do have fairly large hands, so this may not be a concern for many of you. Like Dave H said, the dual thumbstuds are not beneficial on this knife. I had it come out of my pocket open one time. The stud acted like the Emerson Wave. This has been said before, but this knife is very flippable. It also carries very well in the pocket. I was unaware of it, but this may be because I carry knives like the AFCK, Commander, Sifu, etc. Not lightweights, usually. The only other axis lock knife that I have is a Griptilian, which I was impressed with, but the 942 blows that out of the water if you ask me. A lot smoother, better overall feel. All of this being said, I'm pretty sure I'm not going to buy one of these. I just like the clip point version better. :D Or maybe the 921. Don't get me wrong, this is a great knife, I just find the other blade shaped more appealing to my eye. I would definitely recommend this knife if you are looking for a solid, easily carried work knife that cuts efficiently.
There, I'm done. Your turn ZENGHOST.
