I was out and about today and saw at the local sporting goods store the Rukus had been dropped by 100.00. I had to have it! So I bought the black plain blade rukus in S30V. Anyone have this knife and can tell me more about it? What you like and don't like? Would D2 have been better?

The guy at the counter said the price had been dropped because the knife was going to be discontinued!?!? Anyone heard anything about this? I sure haven't.

Not sure if it's going to be discontinued. S30V vs D2 is a matter of personal preference and IMO, most people wouldn't notice much of a difference. Both are known to hold an edge fairly long and both are known for difficult sharpening if you let them get too dull. The Rukus design is one of my favorite BM designs (I own a Mini Rukus). Great blade shape, ergos, low riding pocket clip and the thing is VERY solid. Most people say that the Manix is a tank (and it is), but if the Manix is a tank, then the Rukus must be a fortress. I'm mainly talking about the handle. The steel liners are thicker than the Manix's and g-10 scales are very thick as well.

BTW, what price did you get it for?

I have a 610SBK. I absolutely love mine. I took the clip off and wear it in a sheath and use it for hunting. I would love to get a 615 for everyday packing tho.

I picked it up for 120.00 bucks which is not bad at all considering I'm seeing them on ebay for 160+ and the sports store was charging 220 just last saturday! Thanks a lot for your input, it's much appreciated!

After more research I don't even think this knife is offered in D2, I was probably confusing it with the Nimravus which I think comes in D2 and 154CM.

Anyone have any pictures of usage with the rukus?

Also, to add, I've been carrying the knife for most of the afternoon now and it is VERY comfortable in semi-tight jeans too. I'm surprised. I'm really loving this knife, makes a great companion to my SAK

I don't think that the Rukus is going to be DC this year, either of them. I have seen a BM DC list for this year and the 610 and 615 wern't one it. But hey who knows, and as far as i know they only come is s30v. But I think they would be a Great knife for a tool steel.

That was a very good deal.

I didn't realize you were thinking that the Rukus comes in D2, I thought you were just comparing it to other BM knives. The Rukus only comes in S30V.

Ah good to have some confirmation on the blade steel. I think D2 would really suit this knife well too. I sure do like the add on grips, but 80.00 for a pair of white micarta just seems ridiculous to me. Would be nice if I could get some custom ones made.

Yeah, the replaceable inserts are a great idea, but definitely not worth the money IMHO. I could buy myself another knife for that.

I was just looking at my rukus and I think it would be pretty easy to make my own inserts given I had a bandsaw and the right material. The only thing that would stop me is if theres like some weird indentation in the bottom of the insert to fit on the liner. Which I don't think there is....I hope...

I love my Rukus. Its a little big for pocket carry, but its got a great blade shape, flat grind, totally solid build and excellent handle shape. I'd get the inserts if they were like $40... but its crazy what they're charging for them.

Great price DreamHawk! I'd say you lucked into a fine knife - I'd have picked it up too at that price. I don;t own one but I've fondled both the Rukus and the mini enough to love the knife. They're both HUGE and solid!

I don;t think you'll miss the D2. If it was offered in both, I would only opt for the S30V....but that's me :D

I own 3 of them and they are awesome IMHO. I dint know you could get a black plain edge though. I thought the black blade only came in combo edge and the plain edge was a satin blade.

I have both the 610 and 615, both in satin/pe. I love absolutely these knives. the 610 is probably my favorite blade curently. That full size rukus can do everything that i ask it to do and more, absolutely love it. You got one hell of a deal!!

Thanks for all the comments guys, I think I'm going to use mine to carve our pumpkins on Saturday night, along with a good swissarmy saw. Do you think the blade is too thick for that kind of work?

BTW - ashtxsniper, your sig is really cool.

I dont think the blade is to think. The grind and lenght should make up for any thikness issues.:D

I edc a Rukus in my left pants pocket and I agree with you that it is a terrific edc.
I compare it to the Skirmish in what it can do....EVERYTHING...
And it carries better than the Skirmish.

Enjoy
Tom

to make this knife 10x better,i mirror polished the liners, all torx screws, axis bar,& pocket clip.did it to the 610 & 615, it is such a difference it was worth the effort!
