BM = WHY NOT ????go LARGE or go home

What do you want to be standing with when society burns to the ground like a lighter fluid soaked roll of toilet paper near an open flame!?!?

What good is the fixed blade at home in your survival bag or the practical 3" EDC blade in your pocket when it all comes crumbling down!?

Grab what's on you NOW and tell me if you're ready for the zOmbIE hoard!!..?

That's why you need to get serious and take your carry to the next level with EDSHTFC (Everday Sh*t Hits The Fan Carry)...!

:confused::eek::D

Put in an amusing way = but spot on as to actual reality check.

I EDC what I pray will NOT be used, but will get me to home or another SAFE location in a SHTF moment.

I am very sure that I would have a amazing assortment of blades and other "tools" ,IF there was a chance it was a EOTWAWKI / SHTF day incoming.

In fact I would not go anywhere that I thought "it" was going to happen.

I do carry [ concealed ] a fixed blade when I feel like it.

BUT there is ALWAYS a folder of size that I can rely on .

I would prefer a BM folder, and that means I would PREFER a large folder as I see C/S et al as not making the quality of BM's.

As I stated,I did not post this to annoy any who are fans of BM's,I too consider myself a fan = they are the #1 folder I carry.

I just want to "go big" and not go home without a larger blade ,s'all

For blade 4"+- I think 810 is the longest AXIS locked production folding blade. (Yeah, Adamas may be thicker, but shorter). Again, by looking at BKC production line, they are moving away from 4"+ blade. We can all speculate, but it seems unlikely to have longer blade IMO.

Contego 810 3.98" blade 5.30" closed
Adamas 275 3.82" blade 4.88" closed

Discontinued:
Onslaught 741 4.28" blade 5.47" closed
Rukus 610 4.25"blade 5.95" closed

(Non-AXIS lock)
Skirmish 630 4.30" blade Closed 5.50"
LFTi 760 4.00" blade closed 5.00"

Bali-song 43-401 4.25 blade 5.20" closed

* (Needs sheath. Not a full folder, but a hybrid.)
LFK 10100 5.20" blade 6.70" closed
Salmon River fillet 10110S 7.09" blade 5.52" closed
Salmon Creek Fillet 10115 5.57" blade 7.00" closed

I don't think that BM's recent discontinuations suggests they are "Moving away" or have made any decision to go in a "Different" direction as far as producing larger sized blades.

Rather it's the same pattern they have been following for years now. Especially but not limited the Black Class knives. Much to the frustration and disappointment of their fans I would add.. I've been complaining about this for years now.

They introduce a new model, Black or Blue class and if it isn't a strong seller or when sales start to drop off they often IMO prematurely discontinue the model. They do the same thing with sub 3.70" blade models too.
True, right now in the 3.70" - 4" range there is only the Contego (two versions) Adamas, Bedlam and of course the 710 which has been around since 1999. But don't forget the limited runs of the AFCK and others we still see from time to time.

This is just their normal pattern. When sales drop, they discontinue the model. And then eventually they will introduce something new. Like I said they have been doing this for years. Check BKC's discontinued knife page and you'll see that they have discontinued far more sub 3.70" blade models then anything else. The larger blades sizes have a smaller market so it stands to reason their sales will drop off sooner but I don't think that the recent discontinuations suggest anything more then what they always do.

As an aside, when the Contego was first released I bought multiples because I fully expected it to be discontinued soon. I didn't anticipate it's crossover appeal (Non-Military, LE, and First responder) that has lead to it's obvious success and even a limited upgrade run that is clearly aimed or more civilian marketfriendly.

Just my opinion of course.

You want BM to change their marketing structure to suit your needs? And you think CS makes useful large knives? Then buy CS knives.

Sounds like you are bored. Benchmade makes quality knives. I too have an original AFCK, a new Contego, several 710s. They, IMO, Are great knives.

Darryl Ralph is more fantasy/movie style knives. For show. Or for a prop. Or for some, a safe queen. Though I think they are kind of gaudy looking and from experience, 5.5 inche DRD knives are flimsy.

Go quality or go home... And do you look like a rock star? If not large gaudy knives just don't look right.

Enjoy your time with your knives.

I beg to differ on the supposed flimsiness of the Darrel Ralph CUDA MAXX and MADD MAXX knives. I own several as well as a couple hundred other folders. The MAXX has bumped the others out of my pocket. They are very strong for the weight and very large for the weight.

I love big folders. I have several K2s mainly because if different super steel blades and they hang great in pockets. The heaviest one I have is a Benchmade and I love the knife, but it can bend a pocket except for my back pocket. The Benchmade big folder is a 7505-132 Gold Class and it is a big folder. I also have Farid's big K2 knives. I like to clip them into my back pocket and they hang there and if I sit, the knife is to the side. I love to carry a big knife ad I love my 7505-132 Gold Class M390.

I also love big folders.
But also I cannot carry them so I go for smaller.
This should be added also I think

I carry a Mini Barrage Gold Class a lot too, depending on my mood for the day. I don't need the big folders, but they are fun. I also have a Farid REX 121 K2 folder, but rarely carry that.

Been in the Army for over 15 years now, have used/owned a myriad of cutting tools. Been given more Gerber Multitools or Leatherman's than I could throw away. Spyderco was not bad in the 90's, however I have not seen one in quite some time. Sad really as I was always interested in the Spyderco Civilian model with the hawk bill, although knowing my line of work/clumsiness I would have probaly broken it. What I do remember however was that it seemed to be (could just be what I was exposed to at the time) was that Spyderco was among the first to use the fast-open thumb hole which was raved among G.I.'s who were lefties. Totally agree with the CS mall ninja warrior ficade, I owned a few of their folders all of them early voyager tanto 50/50 plain/serrated models. They didn't last, clips weren't meant to take a beating from a G.I. and the serrated teeth broke free on even the smallest thing (like widening the drinking hole of a 12oz soda can to be turned into a spitter.....) Had a few throw-away Kershaw's, relatively cheap knife in price but could take a good beating and if ever lost it I wouldn't set a forest on fire to find it. Owned a few throw away gerber folders as well, seen some guys loose their s*** when they broke their applegate folders too ha ha ha. I've been issued/given three different automatic BM's and am sad to see them go. I have only one left, a 9100 Auto-Stryker which I turned in for services roughly 4 years ago. Nice people at BM, they didn't have the original blade stock anymore, so they actually refunded me the standard $25 fee, gave her a smaller blade, cleaned her up, and sent her back to me within 45 days. Have not seen a SOG folder in quite some time, although the last two I saw carried by G.I.'s were tip broken Tridents (really flimsy blade) one of the two I physically watched drop off a desk and broke the blade in half... SOG fixed blades are slightly common, I typically see Seal Pups and Pentagons from that company's line. Every so often I will catch a Geardo or two with a Microtech Troodon for no other reason than the "wow-factor," however having once owned a BM Bedlam I should not throw stones (gave it to a buddy in my Infantry BN a few years ago before we arrived back in Douchbagistan). Now that I think about it, I did finally get my grubby mitts on a Al Mar Jumbo Quicksilver, and I feel like an idiot for doing so based on sheer size. I had to use an ASP pouch to carry the monster, I no longer carry it and it rests in a drawer, its no longer fun to scare LT's with it anymore. The one knife I can honestly still get mad over however was my BM Skirmish 630 SBK. Still on the lookout to buy one, great presentation, good heft, not too big but not too small.

The BM Skirmish is a bit too heavy for what it can and would do [ imnsho ].

I own both sizes and they do get some street & woods service [ in the woods there is ALWAYS a fixed blade ---- or 2 ].

I still state as I posted in the original post ,I wish BM would offer a LARGE 5 " or 6 " ] bladed assisted opener such as a Barrage or Skirmish [ blade shape ].

A clip point would be also VERY welcomed,as that is a favorite of mine since I was a kid [ a LONG time ago ].

Y'all can give me any of YOUR reasons for that not happening,I know what I want and I hope I get it before I have no use for it.

btw ,I do own 2 D.Ralph's and they get carried for the same "social" reasons I carry the blade that sits in my R.R.pocket.

there are at least 2 others, one being a SAK and the other a very small slipjoint.

I prefer the ~4in blades also, and enjoy my Skirmish,LFTi760,Rukus,Adamas,Contegos,as well as Spyderco MilTi Military-all for their heft and solid feel.Speaking of solid/heft my Al-Mar with thick stainless-steel liners,~3.60 blade is also a great EDC.YMMV
