BM730 question

Regarding the names. They are not acronyms.

They are the models names. I believe Elishewitz names all his knives after Greek and Roman gods. The Ares is the Benchmade model 730 like you have. It is named Ares because it has similar lines.
Here's a link to the thread in which Elishewitz gives us a little background info on the Ares. http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum32/HTML/002120-2.html

10- 4 Five- 0. 154CM is indeed the American equivalent to Japans ATS34. I believe the 154CM has a finer/ purer and straiter (?) grain structure which allows for better machinability.

Just some thoughts for you on the 730 / 750 comparisons. Having a pp730s and 750, first have to say though big time different knives I definitely like them both. The 730 is probably a more 'user' friendly knife in that you can open it in more various manners. Ambi blade thumbstuds, ambi axis lock studs allows a great variety of expedient ways to operate. Ditto for switchable clip modes, left or right. The 750, though it has an excellent lock mech, is really made for a right hand operator. Yes you can put on an ambistud but it truly performs best in right hand. I also like the way the clip is out of my 'way' when using the axis knives. For me this is a function of clip placement, another reason I prefer tip-up carry for clip knives. If you want to use a lanyard/fob, tip up carry leaves but of knife at top of pocket, sensible for a fob/lanyard. I REALLY like the end of butt placement of clip on the 730, leaving ever so little knife hanging above my pocket edge, as discreet as possible. On the other hand I prefer the flat slab sides of the 750 (or 710 for that matter) for IWB carry. Not really sold on the marroon swirls in the g10 though, still looks like some kind of cheap fake ice cream mix. I dunno..maybe it will grow on me.....I hope.....I like the knife...but then again I need to get a plain 730 if I'm gonna be truly happy with it. For now its in 'staggered' rotation as a semi dress knife....special occasions.
