BMC - The Black Donald. And so it begins.

certainly didn't mean to attack Operator at all, I applaud him for investing his time and money into this. I also don't fault BMC-or anyone trying to bring back northwoods culture and promoting it in new generations. I guess my issue is the marketing (and honestly the warp in the bit is perturbing) and price. If you're marketing a touchy feely sentimental handcrafted product, you need the credentials/authority to justify that price and have legitimacy through experience to back up the sentiment. I'm not saying BMC doesn't have it, but they should probably be showing/providing it if they are going to play the touchy/feely sentimental angle.

I apologize operator, nothing against you, and it is nice to see one actually get used.
I never did see any other threads on them, and didn't know anything about the company until I googled it after reading your first post.

I really can't figure anyone seeing those axes and not immediately seeing the bottom line is fleecing people and not inviting people into a community of nostalgia, or what have you. I suppose if they were honest about it they wouldn't be making any money, though.:D

Hey Payette, what's the warp in the bit you're referring to? Are you referring to the bevels that run along the top edge from the bit to poll? If you are, I'm curious about that too.

Operator, in the picture taken from above showing the profile of the head (page 2), it appears that those top bevels are uneven. Is that the case or is it just an optical illusion due to the angle? If it is as uneven as it looks, it seems unacceptable for an axe of this price point (even for the velvicut price point). Seriously, it kinda looks like the whole head is not straight.

I seriously hope it's an optical illusion as I would love to see Council knock this out of the park!

WellI got The Donald all sharpened up, and took him out for a little Round 2 with old man Flint Edge.

I think everyone will like what they see. I will get busy with the pics.

Thanks.

Looking forward to seeing what it'll do now that you've given it your edge. :)

Many products, especially custom products, sell not only on a basis of performance, but on the narrative that goes with it. That narrative may be painstakingly spelled out (see Virgil England), or work on a subconscious level. In that case, you might get comments such as, "That looks like something I'd carry during the zombie apocalypse!" or "I could see that hanging at my side as I roar for more mead from the serving wench." or "I could see that strapped to my LBE while kicking in doors in Afghanistan.", or simply, "Man, the lines on that thing just flow." There's a fine line between having the narrative compliment the performance, making it more about narrative than performance, or making it obnoxiously about the narrative with little connection to the real-world performance. It gets gimmicky at that point and rings false, which is irritating to many folks when the price tag is high.

So folks, the point's been made that y'all aren't happy with the narrative. Let's see how the performance turns out.
