Hey folks!

As an offshoot to the "Move Your A$$" challenge, some of us in the general fitness thread came up with a BP challenge for those of us who do body weight and weight lifting exercises.

Definitions:

Light rep: a rep that can be done 15+ times without resting. Most body weight exercises will fall into this category.
Medium rep: a rep that can be done up to 14 times, with reps 10-14 being challenging.
Heavy rep: a rep that can be done 6 times, with reps 4-6 being very challenging.
Very heavy: a rep that can be done twice .

in other words

Light - 15+ reps
Medium - 7-14 reps
Heavy - 3-6 reps
Very Heavy - 1-2 reps

Goal is to accrue BP. Current BP goal TBD.

Scoring:

100 light reps = 1 BP
50 medium reps = 1 BP
25 heavy reps = 1 BP
15 very heavy reps = 1 BP

Post workout, tally up everything and see how many points you have. Tally everything DAY OF only; nothing done another day counts.

Example 1:

Back/ bicep routine
Back exercise 1: medium weight, 8 reps per set, 3 sets = 24 reps
Back exercise 2: medium weight, 8 reps per set, 3 sets = 24 reps
Back exercise 3: medium weight, 8 reps per set, 3 sets = 24 reps
Back exercise 4: medium weight, 8 reps per set, 3 sets = 24 reps

Bicep exercise 1:medium weight, 8 reps per set, 3 sets = 24 reps
Bicep exercise 1:medium weight, 8 reps per set, 3 sets = 24 reps
Bicep exercise 1:medium weight, 8 reps per set, 3 sets = 24 reps

Total 168 medium points

(168 medium points)/50 = 3.36 BP

The numbers aren't set in stone. If you have any comments, concerns, or ideas, please let us know over at the general fitness thread.

The plan is to launch this on January 1 concurrent with the new Move Your @$$ thread.

Points do NOT cross over, the challenges are SEPARATE challenges.

Plan is to have a short beta test until December 31 to work out as many kinks as possible. Once January 1 starts, it's ON.

Think how sexy Beckerland will be if all of us are doing 50 BP every month in both challenges ;)

If you are interested, please state if you are interested in the real challenge starting on January 1, or BOTH the beta (start TBD, lasts until Dec31).

Participants:

Qeth (+beta)
crimsonfalcon07 (+beta)
AddictedToGear (+beta)

Excellent. So far, 3 folks are a go. I think the point system has been hammered out, so we're ready to start the beta within the next couple of days.

I'll probably be in. Since I don't have a weight bench or gym membership, this might mean 5000 pushups in a month.

Or squats or abs or jumping jacks or... :D

Glad to have you aboard, mrn8.

I'm in, I've been getting into my body weight workouts, doing cardio in the mornings and body weight workouts in the afternoon as I'm trying to loose fat and build muscle tone at the same time. Slowly getting there! Got to really start pushing myself to see what I'm capable of.

I could get onboard with this.

I've been struggling with moving away from college (and its gym) and getting into any sort of rhythm for my workout schedule lately, but maybe this will help me get that resolved.

I've got an exersize ball, and some dumbbells, and can do most things with those.

I guess we'll see how it goes :).

Add me to the beta I would love to do it. I think I understand it completely, I hope. I do crossfit and other exercise so will be interesting to see how this workout will compare. Considering I am a healthnut and contribute to those threads I wonder why I am not on the Fitness thread more often.

Can somebody recommend a good resource for using body weight alone to work out at home? This would be great for guys and gals like me who don't own weights or have a gym membership. Push-ups alone get boring real fast...

Go the various body parts you want to work out, and there should be a section that has written and short vid/ GIF on how to do the movement.

Excellent, thanks Qeth! That's going to help out a lot. I'm also trying to drop a significant amount of body fat while building muscle mass. So far, down 25lbs, but that's all eating habits and cardio. If I didn't add muscle, there's about 30lbs more to go.

Looks good, Qeth! I'm excited about this challenge's addition to the Becker sub-forum.

I don't know if I'll be able to hop on board for the first month. In the last month, I've developed some serious tendinitis in my forearms that I have to address before I can return to upper-body exercising :( I'm going to try some rubber band exercises in addition to my daily ice application. If that works, I'll be joining y'all come January 1. If not, I hope to jump on for the second go-round.

Last question to iron out - what do we want to do for the monthly Becker Lifting Points goal? Perhaps your beta testing in the next couple weeks will give info about what makes for a realistic monthly total.

That was the plan. I'd like to have a varied set of folks in the hope that our BP/ person isn't skewed one way or another.

Hope you heal up!

dang, if you'd started this while I was at sea I'd have a running start. now that I'm home my routine is wrecked. Maybe this is motivation? Hmm.

For some good gym free workouts, check out "Solitary Fitness " by Charles Bronson, the British prisoner. The guy is crazy but his workouts are very well thought out.
