boker kwaiken disappointment

Got my orange G10 serial# 240 today. Overall, nice fit and finish with a solid feel. The orange color is much better in person.

I can flick it open with a little wrist action. Manual thumb opening is a little awkward. Wonder if it'll get better.

If I run my thumb across it while closed I can ever so slightly feel the sharp tip but otherwise not. Don't think it'll be an issue.

I also hate to admit but I've been bitten by my blade. Twice when I removed it from my pocket. Once I was opening and closing the blade and nicked myself when I turned the folder around in my palm. All 3 times, the blade was closed completely but still manage to have part of my finger come in contact with the tip.

I keep going back and forth on this knife. I'm not worried about the opening or the blade tip, because those are things I can fix. I'm just worried about the functional issues as far as the detent and the thing that makes me scared to buy any Boker, lockup. Also, the centering. I really love the look and would love to start pimping these, but I am always scared to buy Bokers. I don't know why Spyderco and Kershaw can make such great knives, many of which made in the USA, for less money and Boker seems to have so much trouble making knives that aren't almost always inherently flawed.

I suggest going for the Blade HQ one, and buy & return until you get one that satisfies. Not optimal, but they are cool knives.

Started with a 60 minutes black RIT dye. I knew that since the G10 was quite smooth that it would not dye too well. But, it did get down into the fine grooves on the scale. I then hit them with a black spray paint (meant for plastics) and then as that was about dry, I removed bits of it with a steel-bristled brush until I got it the way I liked it. Overall, it gave it an "antiqued" look. It actually looks much darker in person than it appears in the picture above.
