Boker ripping off Becker?

About 2 years ago, we started seeing the Boker Magnum line, with the BKT handles. Yes, I said BKT handles.

They copied several designs, and blended a few designs together into one knife.

The thing was, they were only available on a European website. That's it, as far as they would go. The only way they made it to the US, was if you ordered and paid a ton of shipping.

I'm sure Kabar is aware of this, as they have been monitoring Boker for a while now, ever since they came out with the Magnum lineup.

Its kewl, as long as they say Boker and not Becker.

If you want the real thing, buy BKT.

Imitation is the highest form of flattery, but clones kind of get it wrong because we are promoting individuality and being proud of being yourself.

Patents are funny in that all they need to do is claim they improved the design and it is legal. The slightly different blade design and "improved" material would qualify. The handle could even be improved in design and material and there really wouldn't be anything you could do about it. Automotive manufactures have been fighting those battles for years and losing. There is also the 10 year limit on many things and if the patent isn't renewed prior that can out right copy every detail if they want. Some chip sets manufactured by IBM were copied in the early cloning days and if you knew where to look you could see the words IBM int he chip...All legal too. It doesn't make it right, I'm just say'n...

if copying chipsets was legal, then DEC/Digital wouldn't have p0wned Intel so hard over the years - they were dumb to think they wouldn't get caught

There's a Chinese BK6 copy - a bad one. They used Ethan's likeness and picture too - instantly bad news.

The original Boker's were made with actual Camillus handles. bad.

The handles have since been re-invented, new and improved. if those are copied. bad.

blade shapes? copying the BK2/BK10 and or "improving" is subjective, and that's for the courts. still bad.

looks like Boker knows what they are doing. they have karma to pay off.

plus, hey, 440, made in china, you get what you pay for. which is likely a bad warranty too.

but y'all can buy me a set. i'll be happy to shelve them for lols.

Hopefully they didn't get the idea from my clipped 2, haha. :D

Boker copying? Nooooooo...never happens.

Am I correct in assuming the only feature Kabar could really raise a stink about would be the handles? Blade shapes would be hard to make a case for, since it's almost impossible to put out a truly unique blade, short or mall-ninja artsy blades.

Almost all the facts you state about patents here is wrong!

Blatant rip off and Boker should remove them from the lineup. They can refuse knives, can't they? People are going to break these knives, or worse yet, get injured. They will see Beckers in the future and will place the blame on that company, subconciously at least because of the blatant copy.

It looks sorta like a MK1 with becker handles. What really irritates me is the description: "This is a compact version of the popular model Magnum Camp knife. In the new version, the blade is shortened to 4.75"." That is an egregious attempt to tie this blade to the BK5. The description makes it sound like this is an official, approved redesign.

The sheath looks somewhat familiar as well:

Direct rip off of the Becker handle. 440 steel does not mean anything. Is it A,B, or C and how is it heat treated? A former student of mine had a Chinese made S&W knife. Cutting through the air would dull it. Chinese mystery metal P.O.S.

I was at my local Mil-Surp store recently, and I noticed they carried Kabar knives, so I asked if they carried the Becker line. The employee said his boss refused to order them because, "I don't carry that chinese junk in my stores."

I'm wondering if maybe he is thinking of boker?

Haters are gonna hate. Mis-information, dis-information & copy/counterfeit has been bringing companies down for years. Industrial espionage is what some call it. I call it VERY bad business practice & a multitude of other things i can't print here.

Who ever did this half-a**ed KaBar/BK&T copy :thumbdn::thumbdn::thumbdn:
