Boker ripping off Becker?

Boker is a company that has never offered me any interest.

Becker is a trustworthy brand name, that offers value and honesty. I spend my hard earned money on quality, not junk, so my money goes to Becker.

I have a beautiful old Boker in my pocket right now, and I have several knives from the Boker and Boker Plus ranges, which I think are very good knives.

I agree with the sentiment that it's a shame Boker are associated with the Magnum range at all, because a number of them are blatant knock-offs, and they're absolute junk.

I was aghast when someone actually bought me one of the Becker knock-offs about five years ago, and it has languished in the back of a dark cupboard ever since. FWIW, while it may look cosmetically similar to a Becker knife, it's absolute rubbish. So if anyone doesn't have the morals to steer clear of these blatant knock-offs, they're just going to end up with a fat piece of 'steel' with an edge that would put a butter-knife to shame. These knives are total junk.

If you want to donate that to the Becker Museum of Shame, and shipping is not too dear (which i'd pay)... let me know. I'm not sure Ethan has SEEN one of these, but I can arrange it :D

Ethan has the extremely blatant BK6 ripoff, which they were told in no uncertain terms (i'm told) "nuh uh", because not ONLY did they use the name of the blade, they use Ethan's name *and* likeness. "oh no you didn't". he has one. it's "a laugh"... they don't even look exactly right, but a number of people have been fooled - see the "Database" for some pictures.

Then, those handles look awfully Becker-ish to me!

Becker handles don't look original to me at all. They are basically just rip-offs of a common suitcase/briefcase handle. I'm not understanding why it's a big deal for another company to make the same shape handle. Pretty much any knife made by anybody these days is going to have most of its features or design that has already been done before by someone else.

similar is one thing. making a mould and copying them exactly is right out.

"duck typing". if it looks like a duck, floats like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it's probably a duck, of some kind.

if an average person looks at a thing, and cannot tell that thing from the original, then it's probably a copy.

judges tend to favor the holder of the rights to the look and feel and other aspects.

Suggest you read this thread: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1113745-Boker-copying-the-Becker-line

It may clear up any and all questions about this matter.

A suitcase handle? lol :D Sorry, that was funny.

By the way, Do you have any Beckers?

I just ask because, If you did, I'm sure you would have a different opinion about this matter.

That's just my opinion tho.

A Becker suitcase?!!!
That must be the most comfortable, ergonomic suitcase to carry!
I think I might need a new suitcase, where can I buy one?

Not Becker. Samsonite.

Oh man, Phil Gibbs response to that one fella in that thread is EPIC. On the upside, good to hear Boker is dropping this one.

Just got a BK5 (the real magnum camp) and while scrolling through some youtube vids I found this one... Expecting to see something about a BK5, I got to see the Boker one instead. It'sa vid that dates back to 2011, so it looks like they've been on the market for quite a while.

Then I also found this...

Yes, they have been available for a couple of years. The magnum Machete has the same handles actually. They aren't anywhere near the quality of the real Beckers, though.
A lot cheaper here in Europe though, a BK2 is 90€ here, the Magnum "Camp" is 36€. I guess thats why they get sold.
