After reading the reviews I decided to order this knife for an EDC to go along with my spyderco native 3. I have had this knife for a week and it has really let me down. It was very sharp, but brittle. I have cut simple things like rope, paper, plastic ties etc and the blade chips like its made of ice. I have attached a few images to show you what I mean. Also, I had it open and dropped it 3 feet onto carpet. It jammed the locking mechanism and took me 20 minutes of bending and prying just to close it.

If you are thinking about buying one and getting a knife worth more than the $25 it costs - then think again. Next time i'll spend 25 more and get another spyderco - this is my last boker.

geez...that sucks. i have 3 of them and have treated 2 much worse than you have without seeing anything close to this bad. you probably have a bad one. have you contacted Boker customer support? I'm certain they would take care of you and hopefully you won't be disappointed again.

Yeah, Realistically i'd try and see if Boker will make good on rectifying what can only be described as poor QC.

You cant loose anything by trying their customer support, you might even gain.

The edge really doesn't look chiped, it looks rolled which is what you would expect with a knife with such a thin grind in aus8.
Its a excellent folder for $25, get a ZT 0300 if you want to cut tires.

Well, it may look rolled in the pics because its hard to get a good angle but its deffinately chipped in multiple places. I don't think cutting paper, small rope, and zip ties are abuse. I have had my Native 3 for 2 years and never had a problem like this.

The only reason I made this thread was to say - don't expect to get anything more than a $25 knife when you order this. Many threads compared this knife to much higher end blades and it isn't.

Oops, sorry I thought you said tires not zip ties.
Yeah, that edge shouldn't have responded like that, send it back to Terry and he should fix you up.

You've had 1 knife that didn't perform well. People have posted reviews praising this knife as a great value. It is safe to say you got a bad one. Let Boker take care of it. There really isn't any reason to trash the entire model because of one bad experience.

Should I not post if I have a bad experience? I thought this place was a message board so that means good and bad experiences. Its not worth the shipping cost to send it in.

Sounds like a defect, I've reprofiled my boker trance to 10deg/side and cut tons of zip ties with no chips or dulling or rolled edges, but my one has a lil up and down bladeplay which sucks.

No issues with mine, pretty pleased with it. Initially it was not very sharp, but a little bit of time on my sharpening stone solved that.

I was going to EDC and use it that way but I think im just gonna use it as my go-to beater. Its still sharp but the blade is just soo brittle.

If it is bad qc than so be it. If they remedy the situation then they keep you as a customer. When you "trash the whole model" as another BF poster stated, you will get push back. There are Boker fans here, we all defend our brands. If you would have stuck to facts about the chipping, rolling and such with out a harsh conclusion i.e. "This is my last Boker", you would have recieved less push back. Once again, thank you for your valuable experience. This is why I spend my minimal leisure time on Blade forums.

You should not post a review if you are unwilling to do anything to rectify the damage done. A good review would take the time to at least contact Boker, they might even be able to set you up with a printable pre-paid mailing label. Try first complain second.

I rotate one as my EDC along with a Delica 4. I've had no problems whatsoever with the Trance. Sorry you had a bad exp.

I also think you should give Boker a chance to fix it. I would have probably put your original thread in the Boker forum.

No company is 100 % free from errors and slip ups. It's how they take care of you and resolve issues like yours that give me confidence in buying their products. just my .02

I've had a Trance for about a year with no problems. Impressed with their AUS8. Holds an edge better than I had expected. Sorry yours doesn't sound like the normal Trance.

So after I buy something I need to go out of my way to fix the problem before I make a judgement on the item? I didn't know it was my responsibility to purchase, repair, then judge. For everyone who has a nice boker trance and had no problems then good for you. I just think it is important for people to hear about the other side as well.

You should post a bad experience but don't assume to know every other Trance out there is as bad as yours turned out to be. This simply isn't true.

Everyone wants to hear this stuff.....it's expected with production knives and people like to know what the possibilities are before a purchase. Like you said..it's a $25 production knife. Every knife manufacturer has problems like this. The good news is every one them represented here on BF is aggressive on dealing with these types of a QC issues. You're not going to get screwed.

The problem with this thread is you seem to be trying to convince everyone that the Boker Trance is junk and should be avoided because you had one bad experience. You also seem unwilling to engage Boker customer support which starts to take on a trollish smell.

You haven't been criticized for writing your review. It is the assumptions you've made that have people pushing back a bit.

Did you even read my original post? I didn't say not to buy it I just said don't expect more than a $25 knife for $25. I posted proof as to what happened and why and I am unwilling to engage Boker because its not worth the time and hastle. I am sure their warranty department (which I never said a thing about) is great. I am just saying I bought a knife for $25 and expected a $50 knife after reading all the glowing reviews here and it simply is not a $50 blade.
