Book of Eli

Well if you think about it, probably 95% of the people going to see the movie, including 95% of the people involved in filming it, couldn't tell you the difference between a $5.00 knife and a $500.00 knife.

Have you ever walked by a table lined with fantasy knives at a flee market with someone who knows nothing about knives? "OH MAN!, Those are freakin' AWESOME!".

Exactly!

With all the production and custom blades available to the public - why oh why do they insist on going for some obscure POS to use in a movie. Are they afraid they will make a hero out of a knife [ eg-Dirty Harrys gun ] or are they just so ego maniacal that if its NIH then it cant be found ??.I do not know that blade but it sure smells like a pos .

Ah royalties, and law-suits? Does pepsi get their soda into a movie for free? or do they pay? should anyone get a free ride and have their products shown for free? If they use someones knife without permission and the maker doesn't like the bad publicity are they liable for defamation? its a wierd situation.

or circumvent all that crap, and have a piece of crap blade dressed up and nobody cares except the guy that wishes they would use a notable knife.

when i saw the trailer, then i snooped around and found it was directed by the hughes brothers, now i'm not so excited they also directed "from hell" with johnny depp a while back and that movie just sucked. So i'm gonna wait till video from this one. It still could be good but "from hell" just didnt do it for me
so i wait.:)
Liked denzel in Man on Fire though, one bad man:) good movie

Lets stay off the topic of religion, movies, actors resumes and stick with the machete for the rest of this thread please.

I will not ask again in this thread. Promise. :D

5.00 or 500.00 in a future like that I don't think you can be picky . You will take watever you can get ! A big blade like that will take your head off no matter if its 5.00 or 500.00.

Reviews always say otherwise. I think they must be written in collaboration with the same people who nominate for the Academy Awards most years. Generally if a movie looks good to me and gets bad reviews, I'm there. If it looks ok and gets great reviews, then I get nervous.

Movie critics don't nominate "artsy" movie because they are "artsy", but because they have more developed and matured taste.
But without going too much to W&C, I'll just say that I know the movie is not going to be that special. You just know it.

I saw this movie with my best friend. We both agreed that it was a waste of our time and money. It was slow and boring for the most part. It was fairly predictable for the most part. There were a couple of interesting fight scenes, but just how did this guy become a world class edged weapon user? I can believe that most pre-apocalypse swords/machetes would become hard to come by, and that he had to create his personal weapon himself, as opposed to being able to buy one at the corner weapon supply store. The knife looks realistic to what someone on his own might create for himself. The holes in it may have been part of the metal structure the blade was created out of. Not a movie I would either recommend or see again.

Kinda looks like a Cold Steel Magnum Kukri Machete straightened out.

OK-Thought with Sherlock Holmes and Avatar, I was over movies for Jan, but I guess I have to see this. There goes another $11

The machete's blade shape is a bit like that of the falcata used in the movie "Alexander":

I thought the movie was decent, but not good enough for me to want to see it again.
Speaking of this doomsday genre, I thought the movie "The Road" was waaaay better,
with much stronger performances, although very little action takes place.
The Book of Eli is like a Mad Max-movie (or "Steel Dawn" haha!) whereas The Road is closer to a movie like Schindler's List, since it evokes feelings of despair.

@ arnoldglee :

I agree that the prices are outlandish, but then again the props on that site are the actual ones used in the movies, so then it's not so bad.
One can usually find cheaper copies of these movie props a bit later on other websites.

The blade is a bit of a cross between a couple of Philippine blades...Moro Bolo and Visayan Pinuti; or maybe a broader Itak Tagalog.

As Dan Inosanto and Jeff Imada choreographed it, I would not be surprised if this were the case.
